It has stopped raining since yesterday.
After the heavy rains, it takes more than 48 hours before the seawater is back to normal.
Mindil Beach, Fannie Bay and East Point were still very wavy.
I went to a culvert relatively unaffected by the influence of winds.
The moon still hadn't risen.
It's a dark moonless night.

Last time, I got bit by mosquitoes all over this area, and it itched so badly I couldn't stand it.
I wished for protecting from mosquito bite this time.
I saw many mangrove-snakes in the water here about this time last year.
I still remember that well.
Luckily, I didn't see any snakes this time.

I had a short fish-strike every time I cast lure.
But it was very difficult to hook those small fish on lures.
That was where I loosened the drag pressure a lot.
By this, I made a fish take lure away for a little while.
Then I fastened the drag knob in a rush.
As a result, I could catch fish on lures.

This method is useful for small fish.

39cm Mangrovejack #48 41cm tarpon #16 Squidgy Pro Mongrel

I couldn't expect much for catching a barramundi in my usual fishing locations because of too much water. 
When the high water came, a sea water reached 8m.
The sea water ran throughout the mangroves in my usual fishing locations.
The sea water overflowed outside through the small creeks.
By this, barramundi scattered wide on shore.

In addition, it is too wavy to fish a barramundi on lures on shore in the afternoon in this season.
It is truly difficult to find a place to fish by land based, and still more difficult to fish a barramundi by land based in such a difficult situation.

I went to a saltwater pond where was not affected by the strong wind in the city.
I waded in the water.
Many snakes were slithering about on the ground in this water in March.
I didn't see any snakes this time.
It's a very dark night when the moon wasn't visible.
I used a variety of lures from which to choose in my lure-box.
A 90mm Mongrel produced two results from this trial.
A dark Mongrel in colour did good work in spite of a dark night.
I caught 38cm mangrovejack and 41cm tarpon on a dark-colour Mongrel.
I knew that mangrovejack was very good to eat.
But I released these fish into the water.

Great lure! Tarpon 15 CULTIVA SUSPENDING

Normally, Tarpon will be caught by a top water lure and a shallow diving minnow.
But I caught a Tarpon with a suspending lure.

"Cultiva Suspending" is a very good lure.

While I was waiting for some pictures of Japanese Barramundi from the fishing guide in Japan, I went fishing.
I needed those pictures for my fishing column tomorrow.

I saw Brett there.

I couldn't catch a Barramundi tonight.
But I caught 3 small Tarpons there.

My new trial Tarpon 11SQUIDGY FISH Rainy Season

The weather was good.
The tide was good.
The sea wasn't wavy.

So I could expect nice sized Barramundi.

I couldn't hook up 3 Barramundi properly tonight.
Something big snapped the line twice.
I wanted to mean that leader line was cut by something big toothy fish twice.
FIRELINE was no problem!

I still enjoied everything because I saw Barramundi's big jumps three times tonight.

Tarpon 10 SQUIDGY FISH Rainy Season

I met Mr. Danel Hartley Allen tonight.
He's a photogragher.
I felt a something special energy from Dan.
The amount of special energy overwhelmed me when I met an able talented person.

I felt a similar energy from Mario when I met him before.

After I said "See you, Dan!" to Dan, I went fishing near there.


I used 60mm SQUIDGY FISH/SILVER FOX.

Mr. Mark West said that he's caught many nice sized Barramundi with 65mm SQUIDGY FISH.
Including 90cm and larger Barramundi.
I respect his experiences very much. ъ( ﾟｰ^)♪

The timing of the tide was too late tonight.
But I could catch a small Tarpon there.

My new method needed Mark's experiences.

Big Tarpon on fly Rainy Season Mr. Steve STARLO Starling

I know this point very well.
I enjoied catching Tarpon and Flathead here before I was crazy about Barramundi fishing.

But I've never caught any 50cm+ big Tarpon here.
Those tarpon's average sizes were 30cm - 40cm.
Tarpon was always a very nice fighting fish.

Mr. Steve STARLO Starling caught very big-size Tarpon.
He got a cracking tarpon on fly in the harbour on 5th. March: 52cm fork, 60 to tail tips.
And he said he was headed out again on 6th. March to do battle with the big tarpon from his boat.

Gotta love big Indo-Pacific tarpon on fly! Few fish pull harder on a kilo-for-kilo basis, in my opinion. Thanks to Dave Krantz for snapping the pic in the heat of battle, and Brett Wilson for his great little fly!



I've never tried fly-fishing.
I can guess that it must be very exciting.


By the way,
When I caught Tarpon here, I always used Classic Lures/Red head and Bomber/Red head.
These lures did work!

I recommend these above lures for Tarpon fishing in the night time.
Classic Lures should be shallow-dive bibs better than thi above picture.
Bomber Long A 14A/Red head should be better than 15A here.
Twitch, twitch and twitch!

Barramundi here don't like any big actions of lures, therefore, I use a steady retrieving for catching them.

It's a very bad-mosquito environment.

The water was very calm.
There were some very short bites.

So I used a high rod angle for catching fish.

That's why I caught a very noisy Tarpon.
