Barramundi #1120-1122
Mangrovejack #52
Easter holidays

Were you able to enjoy the fishing during the Easter holidays?
Seems like you're in good mood at Shady camp!
I'm jealous of that.
As for my land based barramundi fishing, it is not at my best because there is still a lot of fresh water in the shallows on shore.
My results as follows,
  • March 30, Friday: 2 small barramundi at Channel Island
  • March 31, Saturday: 0, but my friend, Cookie, caught 1 barramundi at Channel Island
  • April 1, Sunday: 1 small barramundi and missed 1 big barramundi at Channel Island
  • April 2, Monday: 1 small mangrovejack at a saltwater lake near my place

March 30, Friday

March 30, Friday

March 31, Saturday  My good fishing friend, Cookie caught and released a barramundi.

April 1, Sunday

April 2, Monday

The event that left impressions on me are as follows,
March 31: My good fishing friend, Matt Cook (Cookie), caught a barramundi on Zerek Live Cherabin 100mm/green colour at Channel Island.  He normally catch more barramundi than I do at Channel Island.

April 1: I missed a 95-105cm barramundi on Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm/Drop-bear colour at Channel Island.  I adjusted the drag setting for my Shimano Stella 2500FE carefully.  Despite that, a monster broke the 40lb leader line, and got away.  I saw a big girl jump twice.

April 2: A quick fishing before breakfast is refreshing in the holiday morning.  I went fishing at a saltwater lake.  That saltwater lake is 5 minutes by scooter away from my place.  I caught and released a mangrovejack on Squidgies Fish 80mm/Drop-bear colour.  That's why I like to live in Darwin.

72cm Barramundi #1088
Mangrovejack #50-51
Squidgies Fish
S-Factor

Sunday morning.
It was a high tide in a big tide.
I was thinking about going somewhere today.
This time, the same as always, I can't decide where to go fishing at the last minute.
I must take the weather into consideration first when go fishing.
The wind was high at that time.
So I went fishing at the mangrove swamps.
5 - 10 millimetre new jelly prawn were splashing about on the surface of the water.
I thought that barramundi or mangrovejack were still moving about in search of new jelly prawn.
I am into Squidgies Fish 70mm Lime Lighting with S-Factor these days.
It is a way of dealing with the jelly-prawn season.
I had an intense fish bite when I was winding the lure along mangrove trees.
As a result, I caught and released two mangrovejack, a 72cm barramundi and three small barramundi there.

Mangrovejack #49
Barramundi #1049-1050
Tarpon #16
Squidgy Pro Mongrel
Yo-zuri SS-Minnow

It has stopped raining since yesterday.
After the heavy rains, it takes more than 48 hours before the seawater is back to normal.
Mindil Beach, Fannie Bay and East Point were still very wavy.
I went to a culvert relatively unaffected by the influence of winds.
The moon still hadn't risen.
It's a dark moonless night.

Last time, I got bit by mosquitoes all over this area, and it itched so badly I couldn't stand it.
I wished for protecting from mosquito bite this time.
I saw many mangrove-snakes in the water here about this time last year.
I still remember that well.
Luckily, I didn't see any snakes this time.

I had a short fish-strike every time I cast lure.
But it was very difficult to hook those small fish on lures.
That was where I loosened the drag pressure a lot.
By this, I made a fish take lure away for a little while.
Then I fastened the drag knob in a rush.
As a result, I could catch fish on lures.
  • Mangrovejack x 1
  • Barramundi x 2
  • Tarpon x 1
This method is useful for small fish.

39cm Mangrovejack #48
41cm tarpon #16
Squidgy Pro Mongrel

November 16, 2016
I couldn't expect much for catching a barramundi in my usual fishing locations because of too much water.
When the high water came, a sea water reached 8m.
The sea water ran throughout the mangroves in my usual fishing locations.
The sea water overflowed outside through the small creeks.
By this, barramundi scattered wide on shore.

In addition, it is too wavy to fish a barramundi on lures on shore in the afternoon in this season.
It is truly difficult to find a place to fish by land based, and still more difficult to fish a barramundi by land based in such a difficult situation.

I went to a saltwater pond where was not affected by the strong wind in the city.
I waded in the water.
Many snakes were slithering about on the ground in this water in March.
I didn't see any snakes this time.
It's a very dark night when the moon wasn't visible.
I used a variety of lures from which to choose in my lure-box.
A 90mm Mongrel produced two results from this trial.
A dark Mongrel in colour did good work in spite of a dark night.
I caught 38cm mangrovejack and 41cm tarpon on a dark-colour Mongrel.
I knew that mangrovejack was very good to eat.
But I released these fish into the water.

No rain for 3 days during the big tides in the wet season
My mangrovejack #46-47
Squidgies Fish

February 10, 2016
Today's tides were big.
01:28am--2.01m
07:04am--7.13m
13:35pm--0.78m
19:58pm--7.92m

You have heard enough of that the big tides means that the productive fishing windows were short at each fishing spot.
But you still can catch many fish in the short productive fishing windows if conditions are good.

I don't like to fish around the 0.78m low tide on shallows because the sea water easily mixes with many fine sands.
I like to fish around the high tide today.
The high tide carries many fish into our saltwater culverts, saltwater lakes and small creeks in the city if conditions are good..
It hasn't rained for three days.
This situation is very good during the big tides in the wet season.
A water level in a saltwater culvert and saltwater lake is lowers when it hasn't rained for three days to compare with when it has rained.

The sea water cannot come into the saltwater culvert and saltwater lake in some places when the high tide failures to reach a minimum required water level.
The sea water rushed in the saltwater culvert and saltwater lake in my usual fishing locations at the high tide.today.

I caught and released small mangrovejack tonight and last night there.

February 10, 2016 My mangrovejack #47 on Squidgies Fish
Land based in Darwin

Starting this year, I caught and released four mangrovejack.
On the other hand, I hooked a small barramundi but I lost that fish when I tried to take a picture tonight.
I forgot to bring a 20lb leader line and so I used a 40lb leader line for my very light fishing gears tonight.

The next best target-fish is a mangrovejack in my usual fishing locations.

I haven't had a chance to fish my 1000th barramundi since January 30 because of the monsoon. I checked emails while listening to the sound of the rain at home.
Unexpectedly many people haven't caught a mangrovejack on lure in Darwin yet.
I caught and released two mangrovejack during the first one month of this year.

Squidgies Fish

I caught the first mangrovejack at the saltwater culvert and the second one from the bank near the saltwater culvert.
Both of them were caught among submerged snags.
Mangrovejack normally inhabit coastal waters and rivers.
They like the waters among mangroves as the name shows.
I have fished them at the rocks of Mindil Beach and East Point, Stokes Hill wharf and these saltwater culverts.
The best way to fish a mangrovejack is to go fishing to the saltwater culverts or small creeks with mangroves.

How often did I catch a mangrovejack?
I have caught 999 barramundi, 335 rockcod, 57 flathead and 45 mangrovejack since March 30 in 2010.
Of course, my main target-fish is a barramundi.
The next best target-fish is a mangrovejack to me.
I have never tried to fish a mangrovejack as a main target-fish.
Mangrovejack is a very strong fighter and very good eating fish.
Therefore, I was very glad without exception when I caught a mangrovejack.
I have caught them on hardbody-lures and soft plastic baits.
Either will do.
If I were to venture an opinion, I would say that soft plastic baits were more effective for catching a mangrovejack by land based.
I usually use a slow and pause retrieve for soft plastics.
You can add small twitches.

Mangrovejack #45
Squidgies Fish

Today's high tide was 7.7m.
I went to a bank near a saltwater culvert to fish.
I caught a mangrovejack.
This sized mangrovejack was as strong as a 60cm barramundi.

2016's first Mangrove jack #44
Zerek Live Cherabin

January 10, 2016
The productive fishing windows were short because today's tides were big.
In the morning, the sea surface was flat which means fish wouldn't take lures positively.

I went to Myilly point rocks to fish.
I used some minnow typed lures and soft plastic baits.
But I didn't have any fish strikings.
The only remaining method was to use a top water lure there.
Lucky Craft Sammy 115mm was a very nice top water lure.
A nice sized barramundi was about to take it.
But she failed to take it.
After all, the tide was far out of there.
The productive fishing window was very short.

With night coming on, I went to an urban saltwater culvert.
The seawater became 7.4m at high tide tonight.
I hooked a fish in the strong water current.

2015's first barramundi #923-924 and mangrovejack #43
SQUIDGIES FISH

This year's first barramundi and mangrovejack of mine were caught tonight.
Mosquitoes were very bad there.
Unfortunately, I was bitten by 20 mosquitoes.
There will be a large infestation of mosquitoes this year.
That means that more barramundi will come to our fishing locations.

Sunday morning
Mangrovejack #42
KO TACKLE TAIL BAITZ

I got up early morning.
I heard the very wavy sea.
My fishing fields should be very rough again.

I went to an urban creek.
There were many leaves and branches that have decomposed on the surface of the water.
I thought that barramundi wouldn't take lures.
By the way, I was given the following lure by my very good friend, Chonga yesterday.
So I cast it along the mangroves and retrieved with stop and go.

As a result,

I saw many rocks and torrential gravels on the beach.
That's very good sign for our fishing.
