Sunny and windy December

My fishing column has been serialized in NTNews and Sunday Territorian from 2012.
Your generosity is appreciated very much.
On the other hand, I have never experienced such a sunny and windy December as this.
I found it difficult to fish barramundi in my usual fishing locations at the beginning of December.
The conditions haven't necessarily become better in spite of the steady sunny weather.
This steady sunny weather in December might have trouble fishing barramundi.
There exists no firm evidence.
Actually, this problem is unexpectedly serious to me.
The shallow sea is too wavy to fish barramundi every day.

I think that there are more windy days in December than in the average year.
In addition, the sea water was excessively turbid on shore.
I saw the mass coral spawn slicked on the sea surface.
The sea barramundi love the murky water.
I think that the sea barramundi don't like the dirty water.
The coral spawn on the sea surface itself doesn't negatively effect the barramundi fishing.
While there might be some exceptions, the sea barramundi wouldn't come to the shallow water when the sea water was clouded as with the coral spawn, especially in the wavy sea.

Washed up coral spawn at Mindil Beach.
There was a crocodile sighting along the Nightcliff to Casuarina Beach recently.
It's might be a healthy sign in the environment, however.
And yet I'm not convinced of it.
That's why I want to go fishing at Barramundi Adventures Darwin in these days.

The wind condition is always biggest worry in my land based barramundi fishing.

The wind condition is always biggest worry in my land based barramundi fishing.
My usual fishing locations are Darwin and its environs.
Those places are often a shore.
Those places are subject to wind very much.
If the wind condition is bad, either too strong or too weak, it will be difficult to catch barramundi on lures on shore.
The wind conditions are in many cases strong in Darwin and its environs.
The wind often blows against the lure.

My usual fishing locations appear and are exposed in the air at low tide.
The best tide shifts with the best fishing point every 15 minutes there.
That means that a productive fishing windows are very short.
We want to treasure the chances given to us.
There is no second chance at that fishing point point.
We must be careful not to waste time.
Especially, we want to avoid a line-tangling (backlash) trouble and a wind knot trouble.
Fortunately, the technologies of the fishing reel, rod and line are continually advancing so those troubles drastically decreased.
In my case, I am using a bait-cast fishing reel having a DC system (digital controlled brake system).
Actually, I'm obsessed by DC system now.
As you know, other fishing reel makers also have an attractive brake system.

It may be your first time to try the barramundi fishing on lure by land based.

The waters in my usual fishing locations are all saltwater.
In my case, I try to use fishing reel and fishing rod in good condition as long as I can.
It is very important to keep easy cleaning and maintenance for the fishing reel and fishing rod after use.
I like to shop at local tackle stores.
There are many helpful hints in the land based barramundi fishing for beginners there.
Of course, their advice on the cleaning method and the maintenance method for your fishing reel and fishing rod are very useful.
These efforts will also lead to avoid a line-tangling (backlash) trouble and a wind knot trouble.
In addition, I won't manually apply pressure to the spool of the bait-cast fishing reel unless something unexpected happens.

Normally, I will tighten the drag to put an appropriate pressure on the fish.

When a fish cannot be stopped by maxing out drag, then I may manually apply pressure to the spool of the bait-cast fishing reel, though.

My fishing line will break with a snap before that. 

That helps to keep my bait-cast fishing reel in good condition for a long time.

This is just my way.
Each and every angler differs in habits in fishing style.
I think that it is not good to force our ideas on others.

The wind greatly influences the fishing result. Mr. Shaun Battye

It is very good news that the run-off trips seem to be off to a good start.
On the other hand, I went fishing at Channel Island as always.
Including me, there were 6 people there.
A gentle breeze sprang up, disturbing the surface of the shallow water.
I was moving forward as the water got up to my knees while being cautious with stingray, sea snake, stone fish and crocodile.
Hooked a barramundi one of them.
He, Shaun Battye, landed a 56cm barramundi.

Shaun used Berkley Gulp Grub Soft Baits of a strong chartreuse.
He released that fish, and the wind died away.
After that no one had fish bite.
Things went by theory as a result.
Barramundi have the habit of moving to the deep places from the shallow places in the sea when the sea surface is very calmly flat.
Because they need to take refuge from their natural enemies.
Their bait animals also need to take refuge from barramundi.
The wind condition is an very important element in the land based barramundi fishing in the shallow water.
