I went fishing at Channel Island.
The water was cold and clear.
I chose the Rapala X-rap XR08 Glass Ghost after using several kinds of lures.
As a result, I caught and released a small barramundi.

Sunday, July 21, it's a windy day again.
I went fishing at Channel Island again.
I normally use 4 or 5 types of hard-body lures and 3 or 4 types of soft plastic baits every time.
I normally use 4 or 5 types of colours in rotation.
You don't have to use them in any particular order, nor do you need to use all of them.
In addition, increased the degree of clarity of the water of sea may require that lures be changed frequently in my land based barramundi fishing because barramundi are very cautious.
There were six people for fishing including me there.
I chose the Squidgies Fish 80mm Black Gold slightly applying the wariness to barramundi in water.
In addition, I used the Halco Catch Scent.
The Halco Catch Scent is bait additive that uses real fish pheromones to attract fish to soft plastic baits.
Barramundi don't dislike the Halco Catch Scent on approaching it to them.
That is for sure.
As a result, I caught a 55.5cm barramundi.
But I released that fish.
I don't keep barramundi which measures less than 55.5cm and more than 80cm in overall length.

56cm Barramundi #1193 Rapala SXRM-10 Sahimi and NIgiri sushi

I went fishing at Deck chair cinema rocks on Monday of January 28.
Luckily, I caught a 56cm saltwater barramundi by land based on Rapala SXRM-10 using a spinning rod.

I took this fish to my place and cooked the fillets into sashimi (Tuesday) and nigiri-zushi (sushi) (Wednesday).

The sashimi of thinly sliced saltwater barramundi was eaten with Kewpie Roasted Sesame Japanese Dressing on Tuesday.
You can buy Kewpie from Woolworths or Coles.

I made the marinated barramundi Nigiri-zushi (sushi) for dinner on Wednesday.

1,Made the marinade sauce.
   Soysauce 3, Mirin 1.5 and Cooking sake 2. (bought from
   Orient Emporium)
2,Boiled the sauce on a stove to evaporate alcohol for 1 minute.
3,Cooled the marinade sauce before dipping.
4,Dipped those slices and little ginger in the marinade sauce.
5,Left it for 60 minutes in the fridge.
6,Dried those slices with paper towels.
7,Made it into Nigiri sushi style with wasabi.

8,Chopped chives, Squeezed lime.
9,Sushi rice: Short grain rice and sushi seasoning

Nigiri-zushi (sushi) is made through a process of combining vinegared rice with sliced of barramundi's fillets.

It is preferable to wet hands with the rice wine vinegar or sushi seasoning while you are making sushi rice into the nigiri-zushi (sushi) shape.

96cm Barramundi #1192Rapala SXRM-10 Purple Back Herring

I thought that my usual fishing locations, Mindil Beach rocks, Fannie Bay rocks and Channel Island had too much dirty fresh water from the land due to rainfall.
Saltwater barramundi don't like the very dirty water from the land in shallows on shore.
It's a short spell of temperate weather during the rainy season.
The rain having stopped, I went fishing at East Point rocks.
This fishing location has a creek-styled water system.
My first impression of the water was dirty.
However, the water in some places was clean in the main current of a creek.
I expected that a purple-colour lure would be effective for the barramundi fishing in a very dirty water due to rainfall.
On the other hand, George Voukolos Jr who has caught 222 metery barramundi by land based recommended me to use Rapala SXRM-10 for the East Point rocks several days ago.
According to George, our good fishing friend,Mark West had some good results using the Rapala SXRM-10 at the East Point rocks.
As a result, the following lure was what I chose.

The water current was very strong.
The actions of the lure were twitch, twitch and jerk.
Soon, I had a very strong and heavy fish-bite.
The fish was running and pulling the fishing line hard.
I somehow could land the fish on the rocks.

She was a 96cm saltwater barramundi.
I released her into the sea water because she was a mother fish.
I posted this article with the picture on Facebook on January 26.

The next day, I received a message from Joel Eaton.
Hey Hiro, I took your advice on the Rapala lure in purple and caught this 108cm Barramundi off the rocks in Cairns this morning.  Thanks for the good advice!

Joel used the same lure as I used for catching my 96cm barramundi.

Barramundi #1176 Rapala CDX-7 Night fishing by land based

I found my usual fishing locations crowded last weekend.
We can say Million Dollar Fish has been an event with any sense of reality to it to many people in Darwin.
People are the fourth time in this Million Dollar Fish.
Million Dollar Fish has become close to people.
As expected, I needed to get out of the crowd.
I went fishing at night on October 17.
The probability that I can catch barramundi is high in the night time compared with day time.
There is a problem of mosquito in the night time.
Of course, we must look out for crocodiles.
I used a 7cm Rapala Count Down minnow.
The retrieve I use for Count Down minnow is a steady wind if it were usual.
I used it with a short jerking action, causing the lure to dart quickly and erratically to attract fish for catch at night.
The Rapala Count Down minnow is a hard body lure.
This method can be applied in soft plastic shad too.
"Easier said than done."  The beginners may well say so.
It sure is.
I saw a number of beginners in barramundi fishing recently.
They have to appropriately control a movement and colour of a lure in accordance with a situation.
However, it will get much more fun when they become able to do it.
I know, giving their best efforts will yield results.

Barramundi #1158-1159 Zerek Live Cherabin 100mm Rapala XR-8

A few times a year, a lot of small jelly prawns appear.
I sometimes saw the response of small jelly prawns to water temperature.
It is often seen on the occasion of the water temperature rise.
That is not an exception this middle of August too.
Barramundi are moving about in search of a lot of small jelly prawns now.
As a result, I don't see barramundi in my usual fishing locations very often recently.
While such situation will likely continue for the time being.
That varies from year to year, but this situation may be lasting through the September and even continuing into the October.
Of course, you will be able to enjoy barramundi fishing in some places in this season.
It depends on where a lot of small jelly prawns appeared.

There is got to be more fishing than barramundi around Darwin in this season.
I'm sure you guys will be able to enjoy the nice-sized mackerel fishing off the coast in this season.

Sure enough, it is difficult to find barramundi in my usual fishing locations now, but not entirely.
I went fishing at Channel Island on Saturday and at Mindil Beach on Sunday.
I somehow caught and released a barramundi on Zerek Live Cherabin 100mm at Channel Island.

It's a very windy day on Sunday.
I caught and released a barramundi on Rapala XR-8 Glass Ghost colour at Mindil Beach.
I think Rapala XR-8 Glass Ghost colour useful for beginners.
I upgraded those hooks and replaced to the heavy duty treble hooks.

In addition, I caught and released 5 trevally and 2 estuary cod on this lure.

It's very windy today. 
I hesitated to go out for fishing. 
But I went fishing at Channel Island. 
The sea water was dirty. 
The wind blew against the lure. 
Thus I needed a heavy lure having a chartreuse colour. 
Rapala CD-9 has a very attractive wobbling action to barramundi.

52cm Barramundi #1148 Barramundi #1149-1150

Sunday of July 22, there was a pretty big bush fire near my place.
I stopped and gazed at those fires.
I remembered that there was not a moment to waste.
If I didn't hurry, I would miss the productive fishing window at Myilly Point rocks.
The best tide shifts with the best fishing point every hour.
There were many rocks covered with oysters in the seawater at Myilly Point.
The seawater was very clear.

Firstly, I used a Rapala XR8 / Glass Ghost colour with upgraded hooks.
It may seem surprising that this small lure is very barramundi.
I used a lot of twitching in my lure action.
As a result, I caught and released a small barramundi.

Secondly, I used a Reidy's Lures Junior B52 / Kryptonite colour.
Reidy's Lures Junior B52 is a lure that any boat-angler who want to catch barramundi knows about.
The hooks were refitted to the light weight one from a heavy weight one for the shallow water.
I used a lot of twitching in my lure action again.
As a result, I caught and released a small barramundi.

I wished to go fishing at Mindil Beach, but I went to Vesteys Beach because the festival was taking place at Mindil Beach.

Finally, I waded in the knee deep water.
The seawater was murky.
I used a Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm / Aussie Herring colour.
All I had to do was wind the fishing line on a reel steadily not to catch the rocks covered oysters with my lure in the shallow water.
The lure could be guided to swim to under the water surface.
As a result, I caught and released a 52cm barramundi.

I used a fishing reel having a very high gear ratio 8.2:1 this time.
The very high gear ratio improved the twitching action of the hard body lure during reeling.

Barramundi #1145 Rapala Flatrap 10F Long 8'6" fishing rod

Do longer fishing rods cast farther?
Those became possible due to advance in technology.
The flying distance of the lure is a very important factor in the land based barramundi fishing at my usual fishing locations.

I went fishing at Myilly Point rocks on Monday of June 11.
As you know, Myilly Point rocks comprises Mindil Beach and its rock bar is L-shaped oriented casino side.
The seawater was very shallow.
I needed to cast the lure accurately to a distance fishing point.
I used a 8'6" long fishing rod for my bait-cast reel this time.
The 2-piece fishing rod is more compact to transport than the 1-piece fishing rod.
I was satisfied with its cast-distance very much.
This 8'6" long fishing rod has good lure-operation-ability too.
I did not expect this.
However, the result proved it.
I caught a barramundi on a hard body lure.

I used Rapala Flatrap 100mm Floating.
As the picture suggests, I should have changed the original treble-hooks on this Rapala lure for better-quality hooks.
Maybe, these original treble-hooks are not strong enough for even a 50cm sized barramundi.

Barramundi #1141-1142 Golden-snapper #19 Very clear and cold water

Many people's attention is drawn to the barramundi fishing in the dry season in a negative way.

• Some people say that barramundi don't like a cold water.
• Some people say that barramundi don't like a very clear water.

It would not be false to the facts, but it is not the best answer.
Because I know that some people caught nice sized barramundi in the dry season.
They mainly caught those barramundi in the night time, hardly causes wariness in the nice sized barramundi.

My fish finding technologies based on experience, theoretical and methodological knowledge.
I don't have sonar technologies to find fish.
Still, I can catch some small sized barramundi in the daytime in the dry season.

Sunday of May 27
Firstly, I went fishing at Mindil Beach.
The seawater was very clear and cold.
As you know, there are thousands of rocks covered with oysters in this very shallow water.
I used a hard-body shallow-diving lure.
I hooked and released three small sized barramundi.
There is a knack in doing it.
The most productive approach is winding the fishing line very slowly under the condition like this.

Secondly, I went fishing at East Point.
The seawater was very clear and cold.
I caught and released a small sized barramundi on Boots 90mm floating.

I caught a small golden-snapper on Salmo Sting 90mm floating.

I caught and released a small barramundi on Rapala Countdown 90mm sinking.

Barramundi #1103-1105 Bomber Long 15A Squidgies Fish 70mm Rapala Original 130mm

I found it difficult to catch a nice sized barramundi from a high rock.
My video, Land based barramundi fishing near town in Darwin Vol, 35, will tell you that I missed a nice sized one.
I went fishing at Myilly point rocks on Saturday morning.
I thought that there were many barramundi in this area.
But, lots of little barramundi.

First, I used Bomber Long 15A Gold.
Using a soft fishing rod, I created abnormal action of my lure, like injured pray.
It was very important how to add life to a lure with my fishing rod and reel.

As a result, I missed a nice sized barramundi, but I caught a small one.

Second, I used Squidgies Fish 70mm Lime Lighting.

This is a soft plastic shad lure.
So matching the bait to the location is the most important aspect of any land based fishing.
When I use a soft plastic shad lure, the most important thing is not "Much the hatch".
A soft plastic shad lure should be swum like a small fish, and its vibration of swimming of the soft plastic shad lure can be transmitted precisely to an angler side.
This is something which is easy to forget, so you should be careful too.
For example, after a heavy rain, you cannot feel the vibration of swimming of the soft plastic shad lure very much.
As a result, I caught a small barramundi on Squidgies Fish 70mm Lime Lighting.

Sunday morning, I went fishing at Mindil beach rocks.
Using Rapala Original minnow 130mm, I had a fun fishing.
There are thousands of rocks covered with oysters in shallow water.
Many people lost lures in this area.
However, skilled anglers can adequately enjoy fishing barramundi on lures by land based here.

Rapala Original minnow 130mm is a light-weight timber lure.
Using a soft fishing rod, I can have tact in managing this lure.
