81cm Barramundi #1051 Squidgy Pro Mongrel

I had sore eyes-ground and a palpitation this afternoon.
In addition, I felt nauseous.
But I started feeling well when I took medicine after dinner.
It just occurred to me that the deadline for the fishing column in Sunday Territorian is tomorrow.
I went out in haste.

It hasn't rained here for two days.
There's no moon.
The sea was wavy.
The sea water was very clear.
I waded in water.
There was no sign of crocodiles???
As a result, I caught a 81cm very heavy barramundi on the 3rd cast on Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm Drop Bear at Mindil Beach.

Probably, this barramundi ended up getting fat because this barramundi has been eating many jelly-prawns.
I measured the length of this fish at home, it was a 81cm barramundi.  Wow!
I thought this fish was 76cm when I caught.
I misread the length of this fish by using a tape measure.
Normally, I don't kill barramundi of 80cm or more because they become a mother-fish.

81cm Barramundi #997 Squidgies Fish

Tonight's high tide was 7.6m.
I thought that the sea would be still rough to fish on shore.
I went to a bank along the saltwater culvert in the city.
Unfortunately I found that two people were already fishing there.
I wouldn't join them because the bank was narrow for three people.
I started fishing at the culvert at a distance from the bank.
Fish wouldn't take my lures there.
I saw that one of them left from the bank and went to the bank.
There wasn't enough light to see his face.
I was surprised that the people there was my very good fishing friend, Mr. Ben Maunder.
He caught and released a small barramundi.
We had some slight fish strikings on our lures.
The water surface was very flat but fortunately there was no moon light.
Fish wouldn't take my lures positively.
I reduced the drag force of my fishing reel to the limit.
Some fish started holding my lures in their mouths.
They ran with my lures in their mouths.
But I couldn't hook them properly at that time.
People misunderstand that you cannot hook the fish if you reduce the drag force of your fishing reel to the limit.
Maybe you're right.
However, you will be able to increase fish's holding your lures in their mouths when fish won't take lures positively.
A good fisherman polishes his "hooking technique"in this situation.
I gradually increase the drag force of my fishing reel, giving my fishing rod some vibrations.
I used a very light Squidgies Fish 80mm black-gold with a 1/8oz jighead as a lure because my fishing line was a 10lb braid and my leader line was a 20lb mono.
The water was very shallow 30cm deep there.
A big fish ran and jump with Squidgies Fish in her mouth.
I succeeded in hooking that fish properly this time.
As a result, I caught and released a 81cm urban saltwater barramundi.

Sunday afternoon 85cm urban Barramundi #755 SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL

I learned fly fishing and develop my casting skills with private lessons from the expert instructor, Mr. Leigh Eldridge this morning.

And then I went fishing to Point A around the lowest tide.
I couldn't catch any fish there.

I went to Point B.
I waited for the incoming tide on the rocks.
The surface of the sea was wavy (not very wavy).
The water was very murky in colour.
The tides were ideal today.

I caught a very fat 85cm urban Barramundi  this afternoon.
I released this 85cm Barramundi because she's an important mother fish.
Fish less that 80 cm length are males and those greater than 80cm are females.

I didn't have a long enough time for landing up this big mama because the much water was coming strongly to the rocks.
Mr. Stephen Lew (The top man of our land based barramundi fishing) helped me.
He had a sure grip on this Barramundi's mouth with his naked hand.

Today's tackles.
Specially for a big Barramundi!

SQUIDGIES has just started selling above jighead for Mongrel.
We can use Mongrel as a main lure for catching nice sized Barramundi at last.
We don't need to worry that we may catch oyster rocks with Mongrel and lose it.
We have many spare jigheads now.
Originally, Mongrel is a very good lure to avoid those difficult rocks.

This small clip was strong enough for catching a 85cm Barramundi this afternoon.
This small clip did work for a 102cm Barramundi on March 6, 2013 too.

Barramundi prefers an irregular "Walk the dog" to beautifuly a regular one.
To get an irregular "Walk the dog", normaly, I should put a smaller hook on to the front and a larger hook on to the rear. But my Sammy115 isn't like that. Especially, the rear #6 hook is very small.
My main fishing is on the shore based. It's a coase see surface condition. I need a very specially irregular tuning on my Sammy115. Barramundi likes my tuning very much on the shore. However, DECOY EXTRA WIDE GAP HOOKS might damage the painting of the lure's body.
