Much less rain in the wet season.
On the shallow water
Why can't I catch many Barramundi?

We haven't had much rain in this wet season.
I didn't catch many Barramundi.
On the other hand, I caught many Rockcod.

Important factors for a bad result:
#1. Much less rain
#2. High water temperature
#3. Less oxygen
#4. Less baits

Warmer water simply can not absorb as much as oxygen as colder water.
Slow water current can't keep much oxygen in the hottest season.
As water lose oxygen, this will reduce habitat for many organisms.

Especially, small bait fish are very sensitive to the level of oxygen.

However, I can catch many Rockcod these days.
Rockcod spend most of their time at the floor of the sea and in the cracks and crevices of rocks.
They can stay and fit at the very narrow and close space.  They don't need to be floating.
As a result, They have more chances to take crabs there.

On the other hand, Barramundi hide in a depression in the bottom of the sea.
They also hide at the cavities and hollows.
But they can't fit at the very narrow and close space because they must be floating.
Therefore, there are less hiding spaces for Barramundi on the shore to compare with Rockcod.

Basically, fish don't like to be exposed to the direct rays of the sun.
That's why Barramundi go to the deep water earlier than Rockcod under the condition as above.

Moreover, Rockcod can strike at the baits quicker than Barramundi.

Much rain makes a muddy water.
Normally, small sized and middle sized Barramundi take baits with a bushwhacking guerrillas attacking from ambush.
A nice sized Barramundi pursuits and chase baits in muddy water.

Much rain brings a high level of oxygen too.

A big tide comparatively keeps more oxygen in the hottest season.

We can't catch many nice sized Barramundi at the urban lagoons and urban creeks by land based these days.
It was thought that there weren't many Tarpon there in the hottest season. (Mullet still OK!)
Jelly prawn, shrimp and small fish of Tarpon's baits need a good level of oxygen too.

In my experience, the best time for catching many good-size saltwater Barramundi from the shore in the rainy season is when we have had no rainy for 24 hours under the condition of much rain in the season.

Information

Very good bait in the hottest season:
Tarpon for a nice sized Barramundi
Garfish for a nice sized Queenfish and GT

Mario caught a 60cm Barramundi just after a big rain by land based.
That is what I have long been comtemplating.
Mario has something special abilities.
He's an able producer of ABC Tales from the Tinny.

Mr. Mario Clancy Faggion caught a 60cm Barramundi with RAPALA FLATRAP.
