Last month: The 100th anniversary of NT News Hiro's fishing column

My fishing column has been serializing in the NT News since Tuesday March 27, 2012.
This is in put in the NT News every Tuesday.
Last month: The 100th. Hiro's fishing column anniversary

I don't have anything except for feelings of gratitude for you.
  • NT News readers

  • Mr. Dave Krantz (Editor)
  • NT anglers

Photographer, Mr. Daniel Hartley Allen took my picture for the 1st issue on March 27, 2012.

Especially I really appreciate Mr. Dave Krantz fixing my English mistakes every time.

As many anglers, as many fishing styles.
My fishing style is one of them.
You don't need to agree with my method and theory of the land based barramundi fishing, to say nothing of its diversity.

And
Thanks to Mr. N.P.
I could come to Darwin.
I can live in Darwin.
I can work in Darwin.
I can fish Barramundi.
I have no words to express my gratitude.
Thank you very much.

Thusday night
51cm Winter Barramundi #883
HRT LURES MAD MINNOW

Normally, sea barramundis become very solid with bright silver-white colour in the cold season.
Under the condition of the cold water, Barramundi changed into silver-white body.
This silver-white body itself suited the cold water very well.
Off course, the differences depend on individual Barramundi.

They are very beautiful, strong  and heavy.
In addition, 55cm - 79cm sea barramundis are very tasty in the cold season.
The best sea barramundi should be in the cold season in quality.

I caught a 51cm very beautiful white-silver sea barramundi this evening.
I used very light tackles.

Land based, Darwin, NT, Australia

This shallow diving lure was given by Mr. Matt West four years ago.
It's a very nice lure!

And I used double hooks.

Using double hooks, I can catch more barramundis.
It's much nicer to barramundi!

Wednesday night
Barramundi #882
RAPALA Original floating lures

A sudden lowering in seawater temperature has started.
The frequency of appearance of a good sized barramundi is low now.

And with that, I used a very thin and light rod and a small reel.
It's a very effective method to catch fish during difficult circumstances like this.

I needed a very, very good lure.
RAPALA original floating minnow should be the one.

Inspired by RAPALA original floating minnow in the 60', Mr. Geoge Perrin created his own version, REBEL original minnow, out of plastic.

On the other hand, I have started using double hooks again.
To compare with the treble hooks, the double hooks should be more effective for shallow diving lures.

I used #4 in size for a RAPALA original floating minnow.

As a result,

2 Jun 2014

I was invited to dinner by my very good friends, Mandy and Chonga.

I was invited to dinner by my very good friends, Mandy and Chonga last week.
That was a very delicious dinner.

Chonga is a very good friend of mine.
I am very grateful to him because I know that he worked so hard at that day.

Very, very delicious roast lamb dish.
It's a very first time for me to eat roast lamb.
Mandy made a very nice gravy sauce.

Mandy made a very, very delicious apple pie also.
I'm very sure that Mandy's apple pie should be the best apple pie in the world.
I'm always grateful for your kindness, Mandy.

These above lures are Chonga's favorite these days.

I have no family in Darwin, therefore, from the bottom of my heart, I really appreciate Mandy and Chonga.

Territory Freshwater Fly Fishing Open 2014
Mr. Glenn Hubble

I respect a fly fisherman/woman because he/she understands the true meaning of "Match the hatch".

I'm learning how to cast a  fly now.
It's not easy.
I think that a good fly fisherman/woman has superior motor skills.

I saw Mr. Glenn Hubble popularly known as "Harbour Master" at Fishing & Outdoor World.
I asked him to send me some information.
He gladly agreed to it.
And I received a message from Glenn.

Thank you very much.

When to fish a good sized sea barramundi by land based?
Hiro's annual schedule table

I confine my remarks to my fishing fields.
I'll be lucky!
A chance hit is a hit after all.
I have seen a big barramundi on patrol on our shallows on the 1st of June.
But
  • Good sized barramundis wouldn't bite lures at the sudden water-temperature change.
  • The stable water temperature is ideal for our fishing.
  • Even under the condition of a very cold water, they start biting lures once the water temperature became stable again.
  • September was the quietest time for catching good sized barramundi on our shallows.
We can't expect to catch sea-barramundis after around the middle of August by around the beginning of October.
  • I couldn't catch many barramundis in September every year.
  • March was told as Run-off in the wet land, but much quieter than April on the shore.
  • May wasn't very bad, but quieter than June, July.  As the lowering speed of the actual seawater temperature is fast, we can't expect to catch good sized sea-barramundis by land based after the middle of May by around the middle of June.
  • However, once the water temperature became stable, good sized barramundis became very active.

  • Using "Minimum daytime temperature" is very important for our fishing study.

Good sized sea-barramundis won't take lures on our shallows as follows,
  • The middle of May - the middle of June
  • The middle of August - the beginning of October

Keep good heart!
If you had a boat, you could fish them.
  • It's a very good season for catching a longtail tuna in May and June.
  • It's a very good season for catching a Spanish mackerel in August and September.
It goes without saying that our land based fishing depends on the weather in the wet season.
The waves will be too rough to fish in many days of our wet season.
