Sunday afternoon
85cm urban Barramundi #755
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL

I learned fly fishing and develop my casting skills with private lessons from the expert instructor, Mr. Leigh Eldridge this morning.

And then I went fishing to Point A around the lowest tide.
I couldn't catch any fish there.

I went to Point B.
I waited for the incoming tide on the rocks.
The surface of the sea was wavy (not very wavy).
The water was very murky in colour.
The tides were ideal today.

I caught a very fat 85cm urban Barramundi  this afternoon.
I released this 85cm Barramundi because she's an important mother fish.
Fish less that 80 cm length are males and those greater than 80cm are females.

I didn't have a long enough time for landing up this big mama because the much water was coming strongly to the rocks.
Mr. Stephen Lew (The top man of our land based barramundi fishing) helped me.
He had a sure grip on this Barramundi's mouth with his naked hand.
☆⌒(*^-゚)v Thanks!! Stephen.

Today's tackles.
Specially for a big Barramundi!

SQUIDGIES has just started selling above jighead for Mongrel.
We can use Mongrel as a main lure for catching nice sized Barramundi at last.
We don't need to worry that we may catch oyster rocks with Mongrel and lose it.
We have many spare jigheads now.
Originally, Mongrel is a very good lure to avoid those difficult rocks.

This small clip was strong enough for catching a 85cm Barramundi this afternoon.
This small clip did work for a 102cm Barramundi on March 6, 2013 too.

Lessons of fly fishing
Mr. Leigh Eldridge

I asked Leigh to teach me how to cast on fly two weeks ago.
Unfortunately, I had a seriously bad pain on my back on last Sunday.
I had a very nice opportunity to learn fly fishing this morning at last.

March 10, 2013

Mr. Leigh Eldridge put on his white hat.
And Anthony put on his black cap.

We learned fly fishing and develop our casting skills with private lessons from the expert instructor.
Leigh is our great teacher.

We learned as follows,

What is fly-fishing?

How is it different from fishing with lures?

☆⌒(*^-゚)v Thanks!! Leigh.

We will learn new skills or catch more fish next lessons.

Flathead and Mangrovejack
Mr. Rick Mooney

I received an e-mail from Mr. Rick Mooney last night.

Hi Hiro,

Went for a fish at the salt water outlet this afternoon, testing a theory that moon rise & moon set should be good fishing times. It was moon set at about 16:33 and high tide at 19:35 - so about half tide.

There were some small barra hanging around but all i hooked was a tiny Jack and a small Flathead, but they were on the bite and the barra were following the lures so it didnt disprove my theory!

I tried the squidgy fish but changed to a small prawn which worked for both fish.

Do you keep track of moon rise/set?

Cheers, Rick

☆⌒(*^-゚)v Thanks!! Rick.

Normally, I concentrate on the incoming or outgoing tides, the depth, the timing, the place and the surface of the water of the day.  (^o^)/

Flathead was caught by Mr. Rick Mooney.

Mangrovejack was caught by Mr. Rick Mooney.

Mr. Dave Krantz (NT News) and I joined Helicopter fishing tour.

The view from the window was magnificent.

Mark is a helicopter fishing tour operator.
He's a pilot.
And he's an experienced and skilled Barramundi angler.
He caught 65cm and 95cm Barramundis and lost two more nice sized ones.

First, I couldn't catch a Barramundi here, therefore, I leaned Mark's retrieving method.
Second, his retrieving speed and pauses of lure should be very effective for catching Barramundi here.

Finally, I caught a very fat 102 cm Barramundi.
It's a my first metery Barramundi.
