Super weapon whose destractive power and flexibility will be beyond the land based anglers' imagination!
SHIMANO's new concept fishing rod
For barramundi by land based
BORDERLESS 380M-T

Most Australian anglers think that a telescopic rod should be cheep and low performance rod.
That's a huge mistake!

This is a super weapon whose destructive power and flexibility will be beyond Australian land based anglers' imagination.
Shimano is marketing it as a "Borderless" rod, fishing sea breams to rockfishes, especially sea-bass.

  • EVA Grip material
  • CI4 reel seat
  • Hi power

  • X Spiral construction
  • Sic Guides Titanium flame (IM Guides)

  • Carbon tube-ler tip
  • To provide a rod having a flexibly bending tip rod.

Borderless 380M-T should be very suitable for our land based barramundi fishing.

The combination of Borderless 380M-T and SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL should be the best.

MONGREL 90mm / AUSSIE HERRING

I addition, there are some very dangerous animals in our fishing field on shore.
  • Crocodile
  • Box jelly fish
  • Tiger shark
  • Stone fish
  • Stingray
  • Cone snail
We sometimes have to wade through the shallows.
SHIMANO BORDERLESS 380M-T should be much better than we had expected.

磯竿でバラマンディーを釣ろう!プロジェクト
Long rod project
SHIMANO BORDERLESS 380M-T

He fell for the land based fishing on lure also.
Queenfish
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL
Mr. Rommel Pineda

Rommel started his land based fishing on lure late last year.
He found his own fishing spot by him self.
Originally, he used a heavy rod and reel which he had been using for his bait fishing and caught his first barramundi on January 9.

He bought a new rod and reel specialized for lure fishing last week.

As a result,

He caught his first queenfish.

How stupid of me!
A nice keeper sized barramundi was washed away by the wave after landing on the rock.
Catfish #45
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL

My very good friend, Stephen Lew, and I went fishing to the big rock this morning.
The water was favorable sandy brown in colour.
I caught a nice sized barramundi and landed the fish on the rock.
We shouted at each other, 'Nice keeper size!'.
But the wave washed away the fish in another moment.
It was very stupid of me to do that!

Saturday morning
Mangrovejack #40
Barramundi #843
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL

It's a fine day!
The salinity concentration of the sea water became a normal range because of no rain for the first time in a while.
The water colour became a favorable sandy-brown.
I don't like the milky brown water in colour because of too much fresh water.

The tide was coming with wavy water.
I was fishing on the very shallow, 20cm deep, water.
There were hundreds of oyster-rocks in the water.
I caught a nice mangrovejack.
This strong fish pulled the line toward the very difficult oyster-rocks.

Barramundi  came back to our shallow this morning too.
I hooked two barramundis but I lost another one.

My very good fishing friend, Allan, came this point.
He used to be the top man of our land based barramundi fishing when he was single.
He is a very nice family person now!

I think that Mr. Allan Warchot is a natural angler and he is probably still the top man of our land based barramundi fishing in quality.
I want to fish barramundi with Allan more!

On the other hand, my small success in fishing by land based is not so much by talent as by effort.

Very healty shores have come back!
Welcome back, rock oysters!

Continuously many big monsoon rains running into the sea washed away excess sands and mud from shore.
It's a very important procedure to our land based barramundi fishing.

The above condition is very nice and healthy without excess sands and mud now.

Much better than about this time last year!

Now, barramundi has a space of a stop for ambushing.

Barramundi and Rockcod have their spaces on the shallows.
In addition, many oyster-rocks aren't covered with or as if with sands or mud.
As a result, the population of oysters and crustaceans are increasing.
Very nice and healthy!

We had a very bad wet season last time.
The above condition was very bad because many rock-oysters were covered with marine green algae last year.
Very sick!

I'm sometimes about to mistake oyster-rocks for crocodile because they look very similar.
Probably, it has been a mimic coloring since the Cretaceous period.

Good-bye marine green algae!
Welcome back, rock oysters!

Monsoon Barra
Darwin Barra By Foot
Mr. Keith Watson

Of course I know that monsoon showers benefits upon us.
We'll have a very nice 'Run off' and a 'Dry season' for our barramundi fishing.
But owing to the torrential rain, all the fishing fields around my place were too rough to fish.
I was hell-bent on going in spite of the heavy rain, but I sometimes had to give up in these days.
I made up my mind about something and then went fishing to East Point at the incoming tide on Saturday and Sunday.
I got wet to the skin despite wearing a rain-wear.
After all, I couldn't catch any fishes.

And so...
I asked Keith (Darwin Barra By Foot) whether I could use his picture that he caught a 55cm barramundi at an urban lake yesterday for my blog and fishing column.
He readily consented.
In addition, he gave me the following comment.

Hiro, with all the rain I took the opportunity on Saturday to have a look.
Well there had been a abundance water fall around the suburbs and it just kept falling Saturday.
The ponds that we have around a few of the housing estates are stocked with barra and fish best in monsoonal conditions.
I got this 55cm beauty during a heavy down pore around lunchtime Saturday.
I hope we still get a bit more of this rain as the 2014 season is shaping up to be a good one. Keith DBF...

☆⌒(*^-゚)v Thanks!!
Thank you very much for your kindness, Keith.

In this connection I may add that Dave sometimes gives me a very nice information of a proper place at a proper time for properly fishing.  I was always surprised at the results.  He and Mr. Glenn Hubble popularly known as Harbour Master caught some nice fishes under any seasons. They can catch some nice fishes even in the very tough season, September.  They know where to fish.
I received an attractive information from Dave tonight.

To find the best point for catching barramundi
which is the most frequent inquiry content through e-mails
Not for beginners

Everyone has her/his own ideal, idea and way.
I think
'Ability to take an action' and 'To have varied practical experience' are the most necessary things to Barramundi fisherman.
You want to consider all the possible ways, and decide to choose the best way at that point in time.
That sense of achievement is something great when you get the good result.
That's Barramundi fishing by land based!

A very good friend of mine taught me as follows,

It is nature she makes the rules we can only be lucky to read the signs and place a lure in the target area the rest is luck that's fishing!
That's true.

I'm often asked where my secret spot is for catching a barramundi.
I'd like you to find it by yourself please.
That's why I set up this blog.

How to develop my thinking method of finding a stop on the way for moving barramundis?
I don't make a random guess.

There are some different waters on shore.
The cause of that is due to as follows,
  • Water temperature
  • Water quality
  • Water colour
  • Water current
  • The surface condition of the sea
  • Geographical feature
Barra 1 will be faced with the alternative of Water A or Water B.
Barra 2 will be faced with the alternative of Water A or Water E.
Barra 3 will be faced with the alternative of Water I or Water J.
Barra 4 will be faced with the alternative of Water N or Water O.
Barra 5 will be faced with the alternative of Water N or Water T.
Barra 6 will be faced with the alternative of Water U or Water Y.

And they will be faced with the other alternative of Water ? or Water ?? as following diagram.

You'll probably think that it is difficult.
That is certainly true.
It's impossible to achieve an immediate acquisition at necessary for information of 'which Barra ?', 'when', 'which Point ?', or the like.
But we can achieve an acquisition for information of 'which Point ?' or the like by virtue of our long experience.

The condition of 'Water temperature', 'Water quality', 'Water colour', 'The surface condition of the sea' and 'Geographical feature' being equal, you'll probably just want to decide about 'Water current' it based on your observation of the situation at that point in time.

Barra 1 will be faced with the alternative of Water A or Water B.
Barra 1 will probably just want to decide about the better water current for her.
Barra 1 will be faced, in other word, with the alternative of 'Stronger water current' or 'Weaker water current' at that point in time. The tide itself should be small to mid-sized.

To find the best point for catching barramundi should be easy in such a situation.

A current of water that branches off from the main current will be stronger than a main-big current of the sea water when the tides are small to mid-sized.
The cause of that is due to its topographical characteristics around there.
Barramundis (Barra 1 - Barra 5) around there will go to Point X.

That's what you call "my secret spot".
It's not so important because my fishing fields are in a very small area.
All my land based fishing spots are within 20 minutes from my residence by my 50 cc scooter.
And it's not mine alone.
It's a thing mutually possessed by more than one person.
Whether or not I can catch barramundi there at that time is another issue.

The decisions concern the small to mid-sized tides, and the big tides is a different matter.
And sometimes it will be the other way around under the condition of the very big tide.
It's difficult for the uninitiated.
Therefore, 'Ability to take an action' and 'To have varied practical experience' are the most necessary things to Barramundi fisherman by land based.

Big Queenfish on the very light fishing gear
KO Tackle Tailbaitz
Mr. Dave Krantz

I hoped to use the pictures for my blog.
He readily complied with my request.

I knew that he was very busy today.
In addition, he had to edit my fishing column of Tuesday's paper because my English was not enough.
He's an able editor of NT News and my very good friend.
And he's a very experienced and skilled angler.

Thank you very much for your sending me a fishing story tonight despite your busyness.
I received an e-mail from Mr. Dave Krantz as follows,

I was fishing with gun angler Stewie Martin and also my son Marty last weekend, and we were heading across to Shoal Bay near Darwin to target some barra on the run in tide.

As we travelled across the flats in Shoal Bay towards the spot we wanted to fish we saw some birds working over a surface disturbance. Naturally, we pulled up to have a look!

We weren’t really looking for pelagics so we grabbed our already rigged barra gear. I picked up my light St Croix/Stradic Ci4 2500 spin combo.

I cast a Tailbaitz towards the general area of the bust up. It wasn’t the best cast but it was obviously good enough as when I started my retrieve the lure was immediately crunched by a good fish.

It took off, jumping repeatedly as it powered away. Great fun on the light gear.

☆⌒(*^-゚)v Thanks!! Dave.

Queenfish rages as if insane.
Basically, it's very hard to control a restive Queenfish.
Therefore, it would seem to be unimaginably difficult to overcome the physical demands in the fighting with such a big Queenfish on the very light fishing gear.
