Barramundi #1064-1065
Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm
Jagla setting Type 2

I scheduled to meet with Mr. Mark Jagla who was the inventor of Jagla setting at Channel Island in the morning on May 27.
Unluckily my 150cc scooter couldn't run when I was on the way to Channel Island.
After all I had to give up the fishing with Mark.
I went fishing to East Point by myself by my old 50cc scooter in the afternoon.
I caught a small barramundi on Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm using Jagla setting.

On the other hand, I received an image of a 57cm barramundi with his texts by SMS from Mark.
"It was a very aggressive fish caught very close to the shore on the main big hook on a small Zerek prawn.  First barra not caught on W-hook for me"
Oddly enough, he didn't need Jagla setting that he developed this time.

On the next day, I went fishing to East Point in the afternoon again.
I heard that my good friend, Steve saw a crocodile at East Point near that time.
The tide was coming in.
I waded through the shallow water to the rocks.
The sea water was murky and slightly wavy.
I started casting Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm while being cautious.
Soon I caught a small barramundi.
I used a new typed Jagla setting.

62cm Barramundi #1063
Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm
Jagla setting

I went fishing to Mindil beach after work  at set of sun.
The tide was coming into the rocky shallow water.
As a result, I caught a 62cm barramundi on Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm using Jagla setting again.
However, this led to a troublesome situation.
A friend of mine was told to sell his boat and buy a scooter to fish by his wife.
It would be a great error to suppose that a land based barramundi fishing should be easier and cheaper than a barramundi fishing by boat.
My land based barramundi fishing is cheek by jowl with the danger of sea because I normally wade in a water while fishing especially in times of murky water.
I always fish with the greatest caution against crocodile, stingray, stonefish, shark, snake and boxjellyfish.
As you know, I was stung by a stingray.
I fell down and got serious injured my knees, elbows and hands.
I once had 3.9m, 4.2m, 4.9m and 6.4m boat to fish in Darwin.
I think that a barramundi fishing by boat is much safer than my land based barramundi fishing.
I understand that.

69cm Barramundi #1062
Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm
Jagla setting

Jagla setting has been put to the test of actual fishing since April 26.
5 barramundi were caught by Jagla setting so far.
  • 49cm - April 26 / Mindil Beach
  • 61cm - April 29 / East Point
  • 52cm - April 30 / East Point
  • 59cm - May 6 / Mindil Beach
  • 69cm - May 13 / East Point
These above barramundi were caught near town in Darwin.
This is a pretty good result.

Mark Jagla who is the inventor of Jagla setting has a great perspective.
It was thought that barramundi always prefer to swallow baits fully with their massive mouths.
This story is partially true.
In particular, I know from experience that sea barramundi prefer to hit the tail of the bait in the shallow water.
They are just acting.
First of all act after looking at the other bait attitude.
if it looks fine as they look at the situation around, they will take it.
Mark Jagla pursued technology that utilizes the behaviour of cautious barramundi.

Jagla setting is suitable for use in a rocky place in the shallow water.
Originally, Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm is made of durable material.
That plays an important role.

59cm Barramundi #1061
Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm
Jagla setting

Saturday, I went to East Point to fish in the morning.
Barramundi might become very cautious by very clear water.
I didn't catch any barramundi there.
A little before sunset I went fishing to Mindil Beach.
The seawater was still very clear.
However, it's a windy condition.
The slanting rays of sunset was very effective at relieving barramundi's sense of caution.
I waded in the rocky shallow water not to step on the stingray or stonefish.
The water depth reached a few centimetres about the knee.
First, I cast a Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm / Rainbow-Fish colour.
Soon I hooked a nice sized barramundi but missed this first fish.
It was thought that a strong hook was needed.
Second, I cast a Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm using a Jagla setting.
Soon I hooked a nice sized barramundi again.
There were so many rocks covered with oysters in the water.
Winding a 15lb fishing line was carefully done.
As a result, I caught a 59cm barramundi on a Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm using a Jagla setting.
The assist w-hook was much more useful than the main large hook.
Zerek Live Shrimp 127mm using a Jagla setting can provide a very easy fishing scarcely being caught on an obstacle under the water, nor being hooked by a rock when cast or withdrawn.
The circumstance is completed in "Land based barramundi fishing near town in Darwin Vol. 4".
Please watch the movie on YouTube.

Jagla setting

"Jagla setting" did very good work again!
I went fishing to Channel Island in the morning on April 29, but I didn't have any fish bites there.
And then I moved to look for the good incoming tide to East Point.
I had some barramundis' bites.
Finally, I caught a 61cm barramundi on Zerek Live Shrimp using a Jagla setting.
However, the 45lb mono leader line as an assist hook cord broke with a snap.

"Jagla setting" did good work again and again!
I caught a 52cm barramundi on Zerek Live Shrimp using the Jagla setting in the afternoon on April 29.
The assist hook cord should be set to a minimum length which is required to attach the w-hook to the tail of Zerek Live Shrimp.
My 45lb mono leader line as an assist hook cord  was too long this time.
A Kepler is preferred as an assist hook cord in material.
It is very important to make the lure swim in a stable state with good balance while performing a Jagla setting.
