Barramundi #1213
Rapala X-rap XR08
55cm Barramundi #1214
Squidgies Fish

Saturday, July 20, it's a windy day.
I went fishing at Channel Island.
The water was cold and clear.
I chose the Rapala X-rap XR08 Glass Ghost after using several kinds of lures.
As a result, I caught and released a small barramundi.

Barramundi

Rapala X-rap XR08 Glass Ghost

Sunday, July 21, it's a windy day again.
I went fishing at Channel Island again.
I normally use 4 or 5 types of hard-body lures and 3 or 4 types of soft plastic baits every time.
I normally use 4 or 5 types of colours in rotation.
You don't have to use them in any particular order, nor do you need to use all of them.
In addition, increased the degree of clarity of the water of sea may require that lures be changed frequently in my land based barramundi fishing because barramundi are very cautious.
There were six people for fishing including me there.
I chose the Squidgies Fish 80mm Black Gold slightly applying the wariness to barramundi in water.
In addition, I used the Halco Catch Scent.
The Halco Catch Scent is bait additive that uses real fish pheromones to attract fish to soft plastic baits.
Barramundi don't dislike the Halco Catch Scent on approaching it to them.
That is for sure.
As a result, I caught a 55.5cm barramundi.
But I released that fish.
I don't keep barramundi which measures less than 55.5cm and more than 80cm in overall length.

Barramundi #1212
Bluesalmon #9
Squidgies Fish 70mm

July 14, Sunday.
The 2019 Darwin Lions Beer Can Regatta was held at the Mindil beach.
I had fun fishing at the Myilly point rocks in the bustle and noisy atmosphere of an annual festival event.
The wind was blowing strongly.
Still, the sea surface wasn't very wavy.
It generally blows hard but the sea surface isn't very wavy in the Mindil area at this time of year.
The water was cold.
The difference between high and low tide was small.
The tides were moving slowly.
The water was clear.
Normally, barramundi have the trait of being cautious and watchful in a very clear and calm water.
Luckily, the water was partly murky with strong wind in the shallow water.
This situation was effectual.
Someone caught a big barramundi.
I caught a 48cm barramundi and a bluesalmon.
I spread a Halco Catch Scent on a soft plastic bait every 15 minutes.
That might work.
I released a barramundi into the water.
I wanted to take the bluesalmon home and put that fish in a small tide pool.
The bluesalmon might be taken by a big bird when I was working on casting a soft plastic bait.

58cm Barramundi #1210
52cm Barramundi #1211
Threadfinsalmon #1-2
Goldensnapper #23

I had fan fishing for the first time in four months in Channel Island.
I caught in a traffic accident in March.
I had been in bed for three weeks because of that.
I went to Japan after that.
I resumed my land based fishing starting from May 8 in Darwin.
During the next two months, it was very difficult to access to the fishing spot in Channel Island in the day time depending on the tidal level.
A land based fishing for the first time in a while at Channel Island was good.
The water was cold.
It was windy.
I fished at the lee of small island because the winds were contrary.
Saturday's results:
58cm Barramundi
Threadfin salmon
Sunday's results:
Golden snapper
52cm Barramundi
Threadfin salmon
I used a Halco Catch Scent as a fish-attracting.
I could confirm that it has the result.
Barramundi would take lures even at a low water temperature.
I have caught several blue salmon for many years but this was first time I caught threadfin salmon on lure in this shallow water.

52cm Barramundi #1209
Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90F

The seawater was very cold on June 29.
Still, the sea-barramundi returned to the shallow water again.
The shallow water was colder than the deep water a week ago.
Therefore, they wouldn't come into the shallow water at that time.
Now, not only the shallow water, but also the deep water was very cold.
There is no temperature difference between the shallow water and the deep water.
They must eat to live even when it gets very cold.
That's why they will take lures in a very cold water in our dry season.
The tide times on June 29 as follows.
03:31 - 5.47m
09:13 - 3.40m
15:02 - 5.39m
22:01 - 2.09m
When I considered the above tide times, the seawater wouldn't move very much.
I thought that barramundi wouldn't come into the shallow water at Myilly point rocks.
A slightly wavy water is at least better than a very calm water is in my land based barramundi fishing.
I decided to go fishing at East point rocks.
According to my expectation, the seawater was slightly wavy there.
I chose a Yo-zuri Min's Minnow 90F.
The white-silver has been in good result lately.
The Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90mm Floating can produce a tight wiggling action that attracts a barramundi to strike.
I use this lure when barramundi are up feeding in the shallows.
As a result, I caught and released a 52cm barramundi.

How to slice the sea-barramundi's fillets

It got cold in Darwin recently.
The tides were very slow around that time.
That suddenly lowered the seawater temperature in shallow waters around Mindil beach.
As a result, sea-barramundi would't dare to come into the shallow water.
That is, it resulted in a phenomenon that the shallow water is colder than the deep water.
If the water-temperature difference between the shallow-water temperature and the deep-water temperature is moderated, sea-barramundi will come into the shallow water again.
Regardless of the cold-water temperature, however, they will come into the shallow water again.
That is the reason why I couldn't catch any barramundi on the week end.
I think, it is a good opportunity to let Darwin people know how to slice the sea-barramundi's fillets for the sashimi.
I sometimes eat a sea-barramundi which measures 55cm-79cn in overall length.
The 55cm-79cm sized sea-barramundi normally have no parasite in their bodies.
The fish fillets must be hygienically processed.
However, you shouldn't wash the filleted fish with water as much as possible.
It will spoil the taste.
Please chill the fillet in the refrigerator before slicing.
These are how I do it.

58cm Barramundi #1207
55cm Barramundi 55cm #1208
Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90F

When I'll decide where and when to go fishing, I determine the direction of the wind at different tides and then drive my scooter in the direction I want to go.
I think that barramundi aren't active in the chill of early morning in our dry season.
After all, I came to Myilly point rocks on Saturday of June 15 again.
The water was slightly murky.
The water was so shallow 30cm deep.
There were many rocks covered with many small oysters.
I decided to use the lures in my lure box in rotation.
I used several lures but had no fish bite.
Last Saturday, I caught a 61cm barramundi after sunset on Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90mm Floating having a white-silver colour.
By effectively using a fishing-line slack, I used my fishing rod.
That's why it's important to know in how the fishing rod is selected.
As a result, the same lure did work this time again.
I caught 58cm and 55cm barramundi.
I decided to take a 58cm one home and release a 55cm one into the water.
There is a certain time when a certain lure is popular among barramundi.
That is like to last for about three weeks.
There are, indeed, exceptions.
After all, barramundi fishing is a game that has an element of chance.

61cm Barramundi #1206
Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90mm

Saturday June 9, I went fishing at Myilly point rocks.
Small baits are on the alert for the enemy in the very shallow water in the daytime when the water is very clear in slow tides.
I'm sure you're thinking to yourself, 'Why is this guy making such a big deal of this?'
But make no mistake.
This is essential.
Therefore, sea-barramundi dare to approach the very shallow water in the daytime under this condition.
However, they must eat to live.
As a result, I caught a 61cm barramundi on Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90mm after sunset.

This is an approximate trend with a lot of exceptions.
By the way, I normally use a 20mm X 1m PVC pressure pipe to lean on as a walking stick because this pipe is light and durable.
I thought that a light weight walking stick was better for walking.
That cannot be said as a rule on the rocks.
I learned that from Kelly Davies of Moment For Life Physiotherapy.
My left knee has been wobbling because of a painful injury to my left knee joint by a rapture or tear of its ligaments due to traffic accident three months ago.

Thus, the PVC walking stick with a water in it can be supported my body, the subtle balance is maintained at the foot even in the case of losing a balance in rugged easy-to-slip place like a craggy place, and falling is prevented.

Barramundi #1204
Yo-ziri Pin's Minnow
53cm Barramundi #1205
Yo-zuri MAG Crystal Minnow F85

It's very windy day on Sunday of June 2.
The Mindil water has  relatively calm waves in dry season even if the wind blows harder.
It's as a result of the wind direction in dry season.
I went fishing at Myilly point roocks.
The water was very clear.
I couldn't think that barramundi have a high activity in that situation.
I thought that barramundi wouldn't take a big lure.
The water depth was about 40cm - 50cm.
In addition, there were many rocks covered small oysters in the shallow water.
Of course I would use a floating lure.
My choice was a 90mm Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow having a shiny green colour.
I needed effective 3 twitch-and-1 pause retrieves for attracting barramundi.
I hooked 2 barramundi but missed one of them.
The level of the water had risen by 10cm - 15cm.
The water became slightly murky.
My next choice was a 85mm Yo-zuri MAG Crystal Minnow having a shiny red colour.
I neededd effective 3 twitch-and-1 pause retrieves again.
As a result, I caught and released a 53cm barramundi and missed a small barramundi.
As I wrote, in recent years, the number of barramundi visiting the Mindil beach rocks and the Myilly point rocks for chasing their baits have decreased greatly.

Barramundi #1202-1203
Yo-zuri MAG Crystal Minnow F85
Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm

Saturday May 25, I went fishing at Myilly point rocks.
The sea water was very clear at the outgoing tide but very murky at the incoming tide.
Using Yo-zuri Mag Crystal Minnow F85, I caught a 56cm barramundi and a small barramundi.

Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm

I took a 56cm barramundi home and released a small barramundi.
In addition, using Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm I caught and released a small barramundi.
I thought that barramundi is not suited for the sashimi with soy sauce and wasabi.
But this was the first timeI found out how to deliciously eat barramundi's sashimi with soy sauce and wasabi.

  1. Bleeding fish as soon as it's caught is important in preserving the quality of the fish meat.
  2. Ice the fish immediately.
  3. Sprinkle sea salt on fish fillets.
  4. Keep fish fillets in the fridge for one night.
  5. Cut with a very sharp knife into slices.
  6. Eat sashimi with chilled soy sauce and wasabi.

On the other hand, using Kewpie roasted sesame dressing, you can deliciously eat freshly caught barramundi in sashimi.

I'm very careful about freshness and hygiene with the raw fish.
