Barramundi #985-988
Ideal tide and Long productive fishing window
ZEREK Live cherabin
MARIA MJ-1
Squidgy Pro Mongrel

Saturday
00:38am 5.94m
07:46am 3.02m
13:40pm 5.16m
19:41pm 3.13m

It's an ideal tide for catching a saltwater barramundi on our shallows.
The neap tide has a slow-moving water flow which means you can stay at the same fishing point for longer than usual.
That's means that you have more chances to catch a barramundi there because you have time to spare.
Even if the tide is ideal, it will be very difficult to catch a barramundi when the sea is very calm like a mirror or very wavy on shallows.

I went to Mindil beach to fish around 9:00am on Saturday.
The sea was slightly wavy which means very good for catching a barramundi on shallows.
There were thousands rocks under the water.
First, I used a ZEREK Live cherabin.
A slow, straight retrieve is all it takes but an occasional twitch will further enhance its liveliness.
Soon, I caught a 48cm barramundi.

Then I caught a small barramundi #986 on ZEREK Live cherabin again.

Second, I used a Squidgy Pro Mongrel and then I caught a small barramundi.

November 25, 2015 Barramundi #987

Third, I used a Maria MJ-1 S110F and then I caught a 49cm barramundi.

November 25, 2015 Barramundi #988

After all, I caught four barramundi at the same point.

Thanks to the long productive fishing window and slightly wavy sea condition, I enjoyed the land based barramundi fishing very much on Saturday morning.

Barramundi #984
First time in 3 weeks
Squidgy Pro Mongrel
November 18, 2015

We had a big rain two days ago.
There was too much freshwater to fish on shore at that very day.
The seawater was very dirty yesterday.
Barramundi likes murky water but doesn't like dirty water.
The seawater became clean today.
I went to East Point to fish after work.
It's slightly windy which means good for fishing a barramundi.
I cast a Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm for the rocks.
It's not easy for beginner to control a lure when affected by the flow of the tide or the like around these rocks.
Even I sometimes couldn't prevent snagging at this point.
Barramundi came to find the bait and was swimming around the sidewalls of these rocks.
If you can stop your lure just in front of barramundi, you will as good as catch the fish.
I used that lure action as a matter of course.
I brought a Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm to a stop in the flow of the tide just along the sidewall of the rocks.
The barramundi took it at the moment when I started winding fishing lines.
As a result, I caught a 45cm small barramundi.
A 45cm fish was strong enough for a light fishing tackle.
I caught a barramundi first time in three weeks.

70cm Urban saltwater barramundi
Mr. Brenton Leech
November 11, 2015

It's a very good season for catching barramundi
However, luck was against me.
The tides were very good when I went fishing recently.
It's was simply that luck was against in wind condition.
The sea surface was very flat like a mirror in that morning.
The sea surface was very wavy in that evening.
After all, I couldn't catch any barramundi for two weeks.
I found that Mr. Brenton Leech caught a 70cm barramundi this morning at the same time as I planed to go fishing tonight.
Soon, I contacted him whether I could use his fishing story of his caught 70cm barramundi this morning for my fishing blog or not.
He gladly agreed to it.

Here is a fishing story from Mr. Brenton Leech.

I decided to go for an early morning fish with the tides this week being perfect for one of the spots i frequently fish.
It was very quiet for the first hour with only the one follow and then everything fired up, its pretty amazing how it can only take a matter of minutes for things to change, i started to see bait move and had a few little taps and then for 3 casts in a row I managed to hook 3 fish this one being the biggest at 70cm.
Another good morning out around Darwin chasing the mighty barra land based.

My rod is a 13 Omen, reelis a Daiwa Zillion, line is 50lb Fins, leader knot is an albright.
Its a new soft plastic lure I tried out Delalande fury shad in white.

70cm Urban saltwater barramundi was caught by Mr. Brenton leech.

Productive fishing window for the land base?

The productive fishing windows are narrow at the big tides.
The currents caused by tides also become greater.
The sea water goes out, and comes in, more rapidly than during a neap tide.
The sea changes quickly from one state or condition to another in my fishing locations.
That means that the greater tide is, the narrower productive fishing windows become.
We cannot stay for a long time in one fishing point.
The best tide shifts with the best fishing point every hour.
We always need to think where barramundi are coming to.

Even in such a situation though, the productive fishing window around the high tide becomes comparatively wide.
That's why I usually go fishing to the mouth of a small creek around the high tide during a big tide.
The dark period from 7:30pm to 10:00pm is preferable for catching a saltwater barramundi by land based.

The morning time will sometimes do.
That depends on each fishing location though.

Catching bait fish is hard to a barramundi during a big tide because of the strong water current.
So barramundi sometimes miss the target lure while the water current is moving fast.
This adds to the short strikings to lures by barramundi.
I have a method for coping with this short striking.
The drag force for fishing reel should be loosen.
Please use it at your own risk.

On the other hand, the productive fishing windows are wide at the middle - small tides.
The sea water is moving slowly.
We can stay for a long time in one fishing point.
Barramundi will take lures with a good eye for observation, at any rate, they should be shortsighted though.
They don't miss the target lure very much during a small tide.
Practically speaking, I prefer small-middle tides to big tides for the land based fishing.

We will not catch a nice sized barramundi under the following conditions, however good the tides are.
  • Very wavy sea
  • Very calm sea like a mirror
  • Very noisy wind
  • Very bright moon light
  • Just after big rain
So far I have been catching 983 barramundi on lure by land based since 2010.
