58cm Barramundi #1210
52cm Barramundi #1211
Threadfinsalmon #1-2
Goldensnapper #23

I had fan fishing for the first time in four months in Channel Island.
I caught in a traffic accident in March.
I had been in bed for three weeks because of that.
I went to Japan after that.
I resumed my land based fishing starting from May 8 in Darwin.
During the next two months, it was very difficult to access to the fishing spot in Channel Island in the day time depending on the tidal level.
A land based fishing for the first time in a while at Channel Island was good.
The water was cold.
It was windy.
I fished at the lee of small island because the winds were contrary.
Saturday's results:
58cm Barramundi
Threadfin salmon
Sunday's results:
Golden snapper
52cm Barramundi
Threadfin salmon
I used a Halco Catch Scent as a fish-attracting.
I could confirm that it has the result.
Barramundi would take lures even at a low water temperature.
I have caught several blue salmon for many years but this was first time I caught threadfin salmon on lure in this shallow water.

Golden snapper #22, barramundi and 54cm Barramundi #1195-1196
Ultralight reel and rod

Sunday March 3, it's a windy day.
I went fishing at Channel Island.
It's in a tide zone of relatively bad barramundi's bite there.
The best tide shifts with the best fishing point every hour.
Diverse fishing locations, diverse good tide zones.
Even if two fishing points are located within a distance of only several meters, the productive fishing window for the land-based barramundi fishing differs from the productive fishing window for the boat barramundi fishing.
I used an ultralight fishing rod could cope with a difficult fishing condition.
In addition, I used an ultralight fishing reel too.

This fishing rod was very good at casting.
It increased the casting distance of the lure.
It's easy to control the movement and the posture of the lure when being retrieved.
Due to these efforts or not, I caught and released one golden snapper and two barramundi.
I had much more fun using an ultralight fishing rod than my usual barramundi fishing rods.
That was a good change of pace.
This kind of fishing is occasionally nice but has good sides and bad sides.
An unexpected big barramundi may take the lure.

Barramundi #1185
Catfish #48
Golden Snapper #21
Rockcod #343
Blue Salmon #8
Trevally #49

Though it's Wednesday, the Channel Island was very crowded with fishing people.
I should avoid fishing locations where people crowd.
Thursday on November 22, I went fishing at Fannie Bay rocks.
There wasn't anyone at this place but me.
I used a 6'6" medium-action fishing rod.
Usually, a medium-action fishing rod is cheaper than a fast-action fishing rod.
I think a medium-action fishing rod useful for beginners.
You can enjoy lure fishing at reasonable price.
The result will be better than you expected.
As a result, I caught a catfish, golden snapper, rockcod and barramundi on Zerek Live Cherabin 100mm having a white colour.

Thursday on November 23, I went fishing at Mindil Beach rocks.
The weather of the wet season is unstable.
The thunder was rolling in the distance.
I used Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90mm having a gold colour.
I used a 8'6" long-sized medium-action fishing rod.
As a result, I caught a 50cm blue salmon.
This fish was a good fighter.

Soon, the thunderstorm broke.
I didn't want to be struck by lightning.

Sunday on November 25,
I went fishing at a place near my place.
As was to be expected, there were not many people there.
I used Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90mm and 8'6" long-sized medium-action fishing rod again.
As a result, I caught a 50cm GT.
This fish was very tenacious.

I made sushi with GT.
I had normal sushi and zuke-sushi for a late lunch.
The flesh in fish that was marinated in soy sauce and mirin seasoning with a little ginger.

When making sushi, forming of bite sized sweet-vinegar rice is the highlight for sushi chef to show his technique.

51cm Barramundi #1147
Trevally #48
Golden Snapper #20
Savage Gear 3D Minnow Twitch 80
Squidgies Fish 80mm

There are a lot windy days lately.
So on windy days, it is not easy to find a fishing location which is suitable for the lure fishing.
The force of the wind was weakened on Saturday morning.
I decided to go fishing to Channel Island by my 150cc scooter depending on the tidal level.
Any tidal level over 2.8m has too much water to access to my usual fishing location there.
By the way, you should always be aware of the risk of a saltwater crocodile attack in all Top End waterways.
It is never 100% safe to enter the water.
Your personal safety is your responsibility.

SAVAGE GEAR provides a hard-body lure to be swum little by little like a small mullet.
This was my first time using a Svage Gear 3D Minnow Twitch 80.

First, an approximately 50cm trevally took its lure in an 1m-deep clear water.

The force in this size trevally is always very strong.

Second, a 51cm barramundi took the same lure at a depth of about 20cm in a murky water.

The sizes being equal, trevally would be more aggressive than barramundi.
I like these fish, but I prefer barramundi as game fish in shallow water.

I changed the lure.
And I caught and released a small golden snapper on Squidgies Fish 80mm Drop Bear colour.

This is about how I spend my Saturday morning in Darwin.

Lure: Savage Gear 3D Minnow Twitch 80 Suspending

Barramundi #1141-1142
Golden-snapper #19
Very clear and cold water

Many people's attention is drawn to the barramundi fishing in the dry season in a negative way.
  • Some people say that barramundi don't like a cold water.
  • Some people say that barramundi don't like a very clear water.
It would not be false to the facts, but it is not the best answer.
Because I know that some people caught nice sized barramundi in the dry season.
They mainly caught those barramundi in the night time, hardly causes wariness in the nice sized barramundi.

My fish finding technologies based on experience, theoretical and methodological knowledge.
I don't have sonar technologies to find fish.
Still, I can catch some small sized barramundi in the daytime in the dry season.

Sunday of May 27
Firstly, I went fishing at Mindil Beach.
The seawater was very clear and cold.
As you know, there are thousands of rocks covered with oysters in this very shallow water.
I used a hard-body shallow-diving lure.
I hooked and released three small sized barramundi.
There is a knack in doing it.
The most productive approach is winding the fishing line very slowly under the condition like this.

Secondly, I went fishing at East Point.
The seawater was very clear and cold.
I caught and released a small sized barramundi on Boots 90mm floating.

I caught a small golden-snapper on Salmo Sting 90mm floating.

I caught and released a small barramundi on Rapala Countdown 90mm sinking.

Golden snapper #18
Trevally #47
Long tom #7
Squidgies Slick Rig
Rapala XR-8

There was too much fresh water on shore at Channel Island this morning.
It's not good for my land based barramundi fishing.
I departed there, and went to Elizabeth river boat ramp to fish for the first time.

The tide had just been rising.
I caught some fish on small white lures with a sense of play.

This place was suitable for a family fishing on lures by land based???
I didn't think so.
No such place exists in Darwin.
Bad luck.

Barramundi #962, Bream #2, Flathead #53, Goldensnapper #17
Sebile Swingtail, Rapala Flatrap, Lucky Craft Beefreeze
Dry season's land based fishing

Saturday!
It's a very windy day.
There was a little chill in the air.

I went to the Channel Island by my 150cc scooter.
I waded through the shallow water to the mud flat.
The wind blew against my lures.
So I couldn't use any light lures.

July 18, 2015 Barramundi
Land based, Darwin, NT, Australia

Sebile Swingtail 85mm 10gm Green colour is standard lure for this mud flat.

Golden snapper is very rare on lures by land based these days.

Lucky Craft Beefreeze 78mm 8gm Black/Gold Suspended

Flathead at the mud flat

I moved to the rocks.
The sea water was very clear and cold.
The water current was strong.
The wind was still strong.
Rapala Flatrap was very useful under the condition like this.
I felt a strong tug on the line.
It's a bream season in Darwin now.
