I hooked three nice sized barramundi last week and two  nice sized barramundi yesterday but I couldn't land them.
So I was building up frustration.

The tide was just coming into an urban creek.
The water was murky in colour.

Sea Barramundi is a very clean fish to eat in raw.

Raw slice of Darwin life

I HAVE been eating sea barramundi’s sashimi – which is a dish with sea barramundi’s raw slices — for many years.
I have never seen any parasite in their bodies.
In addition, I have never injured my stomach by eating barramundi’s sashimi.
The sea barramundi is a very clean fish to eat in raw.
I bleed the fish thoroughly and quickly when I catch a keeper-size sea barramundi that I intend to eat.
I take it home as soon as possible, hanging it by my left hand using a lip grip while riding on my scooter.

There was something fishy about a man who transported his "catch of the day" on Marina Boulevard at Cullen Bay.
The fisherman was photographed about 8:45am (actually 9:00am) on Sunday by a passerby who noticed he was carrying a barramundi in one hand as he rode his motorbike.

1. I fillet the fish as soon as I get back.
2. The fish is filleted into three pieces and quickly washed with running water.
3. The fillets are wiped up with clean paper towels.
4. The fish is filleted into six pieces. The fillets can be cooled in the fridge for 6 - 24 hours. It must be sanitary. Of course, you can eat sooner.

You will be surprised at the perfect combination of Pietro dressing and sea barramundi's raw slices.
This is very beautifully delicious.

KEWPIE Roasted Sesame dressing is recommended very much also.
You can buy it from Woolworths and Coles.
It’s no exaggeration to say that eating barramundi’s sashimi with a superfine quality dressing is a uniquely Territorian treat.

60cm sea barramundi #920
At a 3-6m deep water
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL

The monsoon showered benefits upon us this early morning.
The heavy rain caused the sea surface to be covered with much freshwater in my usual fishing locations.
It's not easy for us to fish.
I thought that the water condition in some places would clear up in the late afternoon because of the heavy rain for the first time in a while.
I went to a 3-6m deep water in the Darwin harbor to fish.
I cast and retrieved my lures along by the rock wall.
The water was murky in colour.
The sea surface was slightly rippled.
There were concerns that the deepness of this 6m deep water, which was located near the town, provided a situation for capturing barramundi to which capturing target barramundi were less likely to be cautious about in spite of the flat sea surface.
I hopped my lure up and down near the bottom first and then retrieved steadily.
As a result, I caught a 60cm urban saltwater barramundi there.

It was very windy but the water surface wasn't wavy.
The water was very milky in colour.

Thank you very much.

Darwin's lady caught a 97cm urban saltwater barramundi by land based.
Mrs. Courtany Wong
Mr. Jack Wong

Thanks to Jack's advice, I caught a 65cm saltwater barramundi at the 6m - 7m deep urban sea water in the Darwin harbor on Friday night.

I saw Mr. Jack Wong at Fishing & OutdoorWorld after work on that evening.
I told him about my struggles at my usual fishing locations in the wet season because my usual fishing locations, Midil Beach, Fannie Bay and East Point were very wavy every day.
Jack showed me a picture.
It was his wife's photograph.
What a surprise!  She was holding a really big barramundi in her arms in the photograph.
He gave me the information of the fishing location where his wife caught a 97cm urban saltwater barramundi by land based.
I went to that point to catch a big barramundi on that night.
I didn't catch a big barramundi but I saw a big barramundi would take my lure.
As a result, I caught a 65cm one.

I asked Jack to give me the story of his wife's big barramundi.
I received email from him as follows,

Hi Hiro,

As promised, here is the story of how my heavily pregnant wife caught her 97 cm barramundi:

In mid-September this year, being 38 week pregnant, my wife was pretty much house-bound.  Being a very active person before the pregnancy, needless to say, she got bored very easily and requested me to take her fishing numerous times before I finally agreed.  The choice of location is a relatively safe and easy to reach spot near the city. The fainted street lights nearly lit up the surface of the ocean nearby but the light is enough to attract some bait fish when there is reasonable amount of water and flow. The bottom structure is not very complicated here, so while the tide is high, sinking lures, either soft or hard, are very effective at searching the whole water column.

I recommended a Japanese made sinking pencil lure that has a slow fluttering action on the drop, and told my wife to cast along the edge of the rocks and trace the bottom - a few lifts to bring the lure a metre or so off the bottom and let it sink back down on a tight line.  Using this method, she caught a flathead before something much bigger took the same lure. Standing on a rock with a big belly while being pulled by a big fish, I had to hold on to her to make sure she did not get dragged into the water.  She fought the fish all on her own for around 10 minutes - although we were both fairly certain that it was a decent sized barramundi straight after the hook up, we still could not believe how big and chunky it was when the fish finally revealed herself in a series of jumps in the last few minutes of the fight. It was a big relief for us when I had my small lip grip around the fish's jaw.  Onto the shore, the fish measured 97 cm but the weight of this one was definitely above average.  Although heavy lifting is not recommended during pregnancy, this one was worth the effort.  Sometimes, it is equally fun being a guide  :)

Cheers, Jack

65cm Deep water barramundi #914
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL
White lure does work for this season's milky water in colour.

My usual fishing locations, Mindil Beach, Fannie Bay and East Point were very wavy these days.
I couldn't expect to catch a barramundi on these shallow waters.
Mr. Jack Wong told me where I should go fishing in this season.
Of course, it's the land based fishing.

It's a deep water point to me.
Normally, my fishing locations are 30cm - 150cm in depth.
Jack's secret point was around 6m - 7m in depth at that time.

I often use a white lure for this season's milky water in colour.
When I was hopping up and down the lure along the bottom I had a small fish bite near the structure of rocks.
I thought for sure that it would be a small rockcod or Moses perch and there was a small fish near my feet.
I dropped my lure near my feet on a trial basis.
I was unprepared for a strong pull.

As a result, I caught a 65cm saltwater barramundi with a very rare gold body in colour.

Certainly, we had considerable amount of rainfall which we had hoped for and a fishing probability should go on increasing, but it depends on some sea conditions.
Barramundi #912-913
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL
Reidy's RUBBERS

Certainly, we had considerable amount of rainfall which we had hoped for and a fishing probability should go on increasing, but it depends on some sea conditions in our wet season.

The tide:
Too fast or too slow water current should be avoided.
The best tide shifts with the best fishing.
The big tide has many chances to catch a sea barramundi but each chance has a very short fishing window.

The rainfall:
I still fish the shore when it is rainy, but it is not the ideal time.
In my experience, the best time for catching many good-size saltwater barramundi from the shore in the rainy season is when we have had no rainy for 24 hours.

The water quality:
It's easier to catch a sea barramundi in murky water than in clear water but in my experience, the sea barramundi won't take lures under the water condition of becoming murky because of the spawning of the coral.

The sea surface:
The sea barramundi comparatively won't take lures in a deadly calm water.
The sea barramundi comparatively will take lures in a slightly wavy water.
The sea barramundi comparatively won't take lures in a very wavy water.

My very good friend, Mr. Takahiro Nakamura caught two keeper-sized barramundi under the water condition of becoming slightly wavy with BOMBER LONG 14A Fire Tiger at the rocks on an urban shore when he stayed in Darwin before.
.
A fishing probability will increase rapidly when these above conditions are satisfied.

As a result, I couldn't catch any nice sized sea barramundi on Saturday and Sunday because these above conditions weren't satisfied..
