67cm Barramundi on live bait
Mr. Yoris Wilson

March is usually an off-period in the case of my land based barramundi fishing.
The following points can be given as reasons.
  • We have many wavy-sea days.
  • There is a lot of fresh water in the shallow water on shore.
  • Barramundi are moving around in search for jelly prawns.
I went fishing as much as possible in March.
I took every possible means.
However, as a result, I didn't catch any barramundi in my usual fishing locations in March this year.

Moreover, there a lot of fallen leaves, branches and other garbage that float on the surface of water or in water after the heavy rain in my usual fishing locations.

The weather is usually recovered around the Easter holidays in my usual fishing locations.
As of March 28, the condition of the fishing place is in some places starting to change.
My good fishing friend, Mr. Yoris Wilson, caught a 67cm barramundi at Channel Island.
  • His message is as follows. Live bait.  Not much tide movement so was very quiet until almost low tide.  I dropped one that was bigger as well.  One big jump and it got away.

The condition is promising.

4 days after the cyclone
I haven't caught a barramundi for three weeks.

We had a cyclone on Saturday.
Four days after the cyclone, it was Wednesday night.
I went fishing at Mindil creek at high tide.

At last the tides have flowed out fallen leaves, mangrove seeds and others in the water, brought by waves and winds.
It was a black, moonless, night.
There was a thunder shower just before leaving my place.
Therefore, the sea water was very murky.
Around March, I often encounter mangrove snakes while I am wading in the water.
Like this.

Like this.

I waded through shallow water to a place where I could easily cast lures while being cautious against mangrove snakes, stingray, stonefish and crocodiles.
I cast a soft plastic shad.
The sea water was excessively mixed with the fresh water.
Hence, the soft plastic shad didn't synchronize with a stream of water very much.

In such a situation, I had small fish bites on my soft plastic shad twice.
But barramundi were not really actively searching for bates at Mindil at that time.
As a result, I haven't caught a barramundi for three weeks because of unfavourable weather.
My usual fishing locations are located adjacent or close to urbanization promotion areas near cities.
It seems it will still take time for many barramundi to come back to my usual fishing locations.
By the way, I use the fishing reel, developing little trouble caused by the braid as much as possible line for the land based barramundi fishing at night.

Garlic butter barramundi

It always started to rain when I tried to go fishing recently.
Mainly on Saturday and Sunday, I got opportunities to go fishing.
The sea water has not quite recovered the salinity concentration on shore.
I tried different types of lure.
I cast as many lures including soft plastics as time permitted.
When I was spoken to by a fishing people while I was casting lure at East point, I was at a loss for wards.
I gave him the cold shoulder.
I was very sorry about that.
It couldn't be helped.
The best tide shifts with the best fishing point every hour.
The tide water was coming into the shallow water around the rocks.
The productive fishing window was very short there.
I didn't want to waste even a single minute.
I had no spare feelings at that time.
I am a very mild person while the tide water is going out.
The productive fishing windows are normally long.
I have some spare feelings.
If someone comes to talk to me, I will turn a willing ear to that person.
After all, I didn't have any fish bites on my lures including my soft plastics on Saturday and Sunday.
There was no meat left in my fridge but was some frozen barramundi.
I like fish and chips very much.
As you know, Garlic Butter Barramundi is occasionally nice too.
This recipe for garlic butter barramundi soaked in garlic butter and ........
  • 80 grams butter
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Lemon, juiced
  • Salt and pepper
  • Dust with seasoned flour, shaking off any excess
  • 5 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 tbsp parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp chillis, finely chopped
Very delicious!

The wind greatly influences the fishing result.
Mr. Shaun Battye

It is very good news that the run-off trips seem to be off to a good start.
On the other hand, I went fishing at Channel Island as always.
Including me, there were 6 people there.
A gentle breeze sprang up, disturbing the surface of the shallow water.
I was moving forward as the water got up to my knees while being cautious with stingray, sea snake, stone fish and crocodile.
Hooked a barramundi one of them.
He, Shaun Battye, landed a 56cm barramundi.

Shaun used Berkley Gulp Grub Soft Baits of a strong chartreuse.
He released that fish, and the wind died away.
After that no one had fish bite.
Things went by theory as a result.
Barramundi have the habit of moving to the deep places from the shallow places in the sea when the sea surface is very calmly flat.
Because they need to take refuge from their natural enemies.
Their bait animals also need to take refuge from barramundi.
The wind condition is an very important element in the land based barramundi fishing in the shallow water.
