Barramundi #1109
Squidgies Fish 70mm
Too much fresh water

Good monsoon rains will bring about a very good barramundi fishing in the dry season.
On the other hand, the heavy rains that accompanied strong winds during the end of December is interfering with my land based barramundi fishing.
Even if the wind dropped, there would be too much fresh water in the shallows just after the heavy rains.
Most barramundi of costal waters tend to stay in deep waters just after the heavy rains.
That's why it will be very difficult to catch barramundi on lures in the shallow waters just after the heavy rains.
There are exceptions to every rule.
Regardless of that situation, a fickle barramundi sometimes comes into the shallow waters.
I went fishing at Channel Island and luckily hooked two nice sized barramundi but couldn't land them up.
As you know, barramundi can live in a freshwater area, a blackish water area or a saltwater area.
Barramundi try as much as possible not to drink fresh water in a fresh water area.
Barramundi try as much as possible to drink salt water in a salt water area.
They won't suck lures in a vigorous manner in the shallow water just after the heavy rains.
The fishing hook will be easily slipped out from the mouth of a fish in the shallow water after the heavy rains.
I also went fishing at East point.
In this case, I luckily caught a small barramundi and released him into the water.

Squidgies Fish 70mm / Lime Lighting / Jighead 1/6oz #1/0

I used a new fishing reel this time because I bought a new Shimano Chronarch G 150HG recently.
This reel has a very good casting distance.
I used a Surfix 832 20lb braid line for this new reel.
My land based barramundi fishing is totally supported by the advancing technology of these fishing tackles.
Recently, these technologies themselves have greatly improved and are becoming an important factor in my land based barramundi fishing.

58cm Barramundi #1108
Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm
Fish and Chips
Sashimi

Saturday morning on December 16, I went fishing at Channel Island.
It was unusually calm day in December.
The sea surface was flat.
Fish wouldn't bite lures.
However, there was hope because the seawater was clean but not very clear.
I saw some splashing jelly prawns whose size were 50mm - 70mm.
I used Zerek Live Cherabin and Zerek Live Shrimp.
Fish wouldn't take them.
Next, I used Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm Aussie Herring having a long flying distance.
Without dragging on the bottom of water, I retrieved it slowly.
As a result, I caught a 58cm barramundi.

And I took this barramundi home.
Heated lard in a large sauce pan, and fried fish.

I ate 3 slices of barramundi's sashimi as an appetizer.

These were very delicious.

Barramundi #1107
Zerek Flat Shad 3.5"

I could catch a 69cm barramundi at Channel Island yesterday by sheer luck.
So I wouldn't go fishing at Channel Island today.
The tides were not so bad today.
Whether I could catch a barramundi or not depended on the wind condition.
Anyway, I went fishing at Myilly point rocks.
The wind condition was much narrower than it might have been.
The best fishing point was already being used by the other people.
As a result, I caught a small barramundi on Zerek Flat Shad.

69cm Barramundi #1106
Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm

Saturday afternoon, I went fishing at Channel Island.
There were many splashing "booffing" barramundi on the shallow.
I didn't see what they were chasing.
They were by that time pretty near me.
But they didn't bite any lures with a slow reeling.
I was building up frustration.
They wouldn't take even a soft plastic lure of Zerek Live Cherabin 100mm.
At that sort of time, barramundi are normally chasing a school of new jelly prawn.
I saw many small jelly prawns were showering out of water in Darwin harbour last week.
I thought that barramundi were chasing a school of small sized, around 15mm, jelly prawn this time.
I was really in a fix.
There were still many splashing "booffing" barramundi near me.
I tried using Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm Drop Bear with a quick reeling.
To my surprise, a nice sized barramundi took it.

69cm Barramundi / December 9, 2017 / Channel Island

Clearly, it was a reaction bite.
It was unusual for barramundi to take a lure while they were infatuated with a school of jelly prawn.
After all, I had a fish bite only once.
The result would be the action at the moment of an encounter.
I was also hoping for a miracle to happen again.
However, I couldn't see a red tag.

7 Dec 2017

Boat fishing with my very good fishing friend.
Jelly prawns in December

Saturday morning, I went to Dinah beach boat ramp.
My very good fishing friend, Keith Watson, invited me to go fishing by his 5m boat.
We were moving about in search of clean waters in Darwin harbour.
There were some nice shallows but the water in those shallows was cloudy with silt from the land.
It seemed like the possibility of catching barramundi were low.
Keith took me a long sandbank.
Many small drains were coming out of the mangroves, or run offs from sandbars at low tide.
Baits were holding in the mouths of small drains up in the shallows.
Keith caught a threadfin salmon and a blue salmon on his favourite soft plastic.
He used Gulp Swimming Mullet Pumpkinseed with quivering his spinning fishing rod.

Keith was really good at using spinning fishing rod.
I also prefer to use Gulp Swimming Mullet Pumpkinseed for the fresh water barramundi and Saratoga.

This boat fishing with Keith was a constructive fishing for me.
I saw many small jelly prawns were showering out of water.

It is thought that there are usually two huge outbreaks of new jelly prawns around the beginning and the end of the dry season.
However, if the condition meets, there is an outbreak of new jelly prawns all year round in Darwin harbour.
I could confirm that this time.

Because Million Dollar Fish Season 3 made a good start, I have received many inquiries about the best tide for the land based barramundi fishing.
The best tide shifts with the best fishing point every hour.
I'm wishing you success in secret.
Actually, that mostly depends on the weather in December.
The salt concentration of the seawater is low after some rains in shallows.
A strong wind often blows after work.
This is difficult for me.
I should go fishing at creeks in December.

Barramundi #1103-1105
Bomber Long 15A
Squidgies Fish 70mm
Rapala Original 130mm

I found it difficult to catch a nice sized barramundi from a high rock.
My video, Land based barramundi fishing near town in Darwin Vol, 35, will tell you that I missed a nice sized one.
I went fishing at Myilly point rocks on Saturday morning.
I thought that there were many barramundi in this area.
But, lots of little barramundi.

First, I used Bomber Long 15A Gold.
Using a soft fishing rod, I created abnormal action of my lure, like injured pray.
It was very important how to add life to a lure with my fishing rod and reel.

Rod: Samaki Zing Xtreme SZX-661BM 6'6" Line: 8-14lb Cast: 1/4-5/8oz Action: Moderate
Reel: Shimano Scorpion 70XG Gear ratio 8.2:1 very fast

As a result, I missed a nice sized barramundi, but I caught a small one.

Second, I used Squidgies Fish 70mm Lime Lighting.
This is a soft plastic shad lure.
So matching the bait to the location is the most important aspect of any land based fishing.
When I use a soft plastic shad lure, the most important thing is not "Much the hatch".
A soft plastic shad lure should be swum like a small fish, and its vibration of swimming of the soft plastic shad lure can be transmitted precisely to an angler side.
This is something which is easy to forget, so you should be careful too.
For example, after a heavy rain, you cannot feel the vibration of swimming of the soft plastic shad lure very much.
As a result, I caught a small barramundi on Squidgies Fish 70mm Lime Lighting.

Sunday morning, I went fishing at Mindil beach rocks.
Using Rapala Original minnow 130mm, I had a fun fishing.
There are thousands of rocks covered with oysters in shallow water.
Many people lost lures in this area.
However, skilled anglers can adequately enjoy fishing barramundi on lures by land based here.

Rapala Original minnow 130mm is a light-weight timber lure.
Using a soft fishing rod, I can have tact in managing this lure.

Barramundi #1099-1102
Cheers to Million Dollar Fish Season 3

There has been a lot of rain recently.
A good rainy season showers benefits upon us.
It will bring about a very fishing productive dry season.
Recently, a friend of mine caught some nice sized barramundi near Cullen Bay.
However, an area of water that is very shallow is not very fishing productive now.
Nevertheless, I could catch some barramundi on lures by land based in my usual fishing locations.
But, those sizes were very small.

November 15 / Barramundi #1100 / Squidgies Fish 70mm Lime Lighting / Mindil Beach

November 18 / Barramundi #1101 / HRT Lures Mad Minnow 70mm Fire Engine / East Point

November 19 / Barramundi #1102 / Squidgies Fish 80mm Drop Bear / Fannie Bay

From, these results, it is inferred that nice sized barramundi possibly are moving about in search of their baits while swimming in the slightly deeper, mid-zone instead of the very shallow area.
I want to catch one more $10,000 fish.
I normally fish barramundi on lures by land based at a water depth of 30cm - 50cm.
I should probably fish barramundi at a water depth of 1m - 1.5m during this season.
By the way, I got 24 bottles of beer as a supplementary prize on $10,000 Fish.
The doctor has ordered me to abstain from beer.
However, I love food that goes well with beer.
I made Gyoza dumplings with pork, cabbage and spring onion.
Very delicious!

Here's cheers to Million Dollar Fish Season 3!

Trevally #48
57cm Barramundi #1098
Squidgies Fish

Rain clouds were hanging low in the sky around the Darwin city.
I took a compensatory day off on Friday, November 10.
I went fishing at Channel Island.
Rain clouds started to gather blackly above me.
Slightly windy.
The seawater was not influenced by rainwater and dust from the land at that time.
I cannot expect to catch barramundi when a large amount of rainwater gushes in the shallow water.
It was easy to reproduce normal swimming and irregular weak movements of my soft plastic lures on reeling in the under layer of the saltwater.
On the other hand, it was difficult to reproduce normal swimming of my soft plastic lures in the upper layer of the freshwater.
We need much rain in our wet season to get ready for our good dry season.
That is an obvious thing.
There I realized that what Darwin people think is natural is not always regarded as natural by people in the land based barramundi fishing.
Darwin people probably think that I can catch more barramundi in a warm water season.
I can't say that is correct.
That mostly depends on the weather in our wet season.
I'm scared of thunder too.
However, I can catch many barramundi at the sunny weather during the rainy season.
It also depends on the salinity concentration in the shallow water.
When the above conditions are satisfied, I will be able to catch many barramundi in my usual fishing locations in our wet season.

As a result, I caught a trevally and a 57cm barramundi.

The white colour of soft plastics is effective for catching a barramundi when the seawater becomes milky in colour in our wet season.

Small barramundi #1093-1097
Squidgies Fish
Saltwater pond

November 8, the high tide water came into the saltwater pond.
There was no street light at all.
It was dark night.
The pond has risen.
My headlight lighted up my feet.
It was about one feet of water.
I had usually seen many mangrove-snakes in this water around March.
Luckily, I didn't see any snakes at this time.
As a result, I caught and released 5 small barramundi.

59cm Barramundi #1092
AUD10,000 Barramundi
Zerek Live Cherabin 127mm
Jagla setting

I haven't won the lottery.
I'm not cut out for gambling.
Maybe I'm just unlucky, but working for my pay is more of a sure thing.
How ripping!
See what I have done!
My wildest hopes have been fulfilled.
I caught a 59cm barramundi on Zerek Live Cherabin 127mm with Jagla setting at Fannie bay on November 2.
I thought it odd that that fish unusually had a dirty stick covered with seaweeds on his back.
Look closely, the dirty stick was a red tag.
The red tag seemed to be written in two lines as follows.
EXP 28 FEB 2018
S3-MDF 3786
I thought that it must be the red tag of the season 3 for Million Dollar Fish.
"Oh my god"

I finished with work at 4:30pm.
So I went back home once.
I changed clothes for the land based barramundi fishing.
I decided where to go fishing after reading the time times book.
In addition, the fishing location depended on the weather and wind of the day.
It rained recently heavily.
Barramundi doesn't like a dirty water with land/water pollution.
I judged those factors comprehensively.
After all, I decided to go fishing to Fannie bay rocks.

The tide was going out.
The water was murky in colour but clean.
There were many big rocks in the water.
I used Zerek Live Cherabin 127mm with Jagla setting.
As a result, I caught a 59cm barramundi.
Finally, I saw a red tag attached to the body of that fish.
