53cm Barramundi #1160
Barramundi #1161-1163
Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90mm
87cm Barramundi by Mr. Matt Cook

The marine species are very sensitive to water temperature changes.
The effect of the increase in water temperature by 1℃ is very big to the marine species.
Responding to the water temperature rise, many jelly prawns in some places appeared.
Barramundi are moving about in search of those jelly prawns with that.
Barramundi are so crazy about jelly prawns that they often forget other baits.
I went fishing at Channel Island on Sunday.
I tried various lures for catching barramundi.
Most lures were completely useless at that time.
Those are usually a very effective lure for catching barramundi.
Only Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90 mm was of great help to me.
This lure moves like a prawn.
As a result, I caught a 53 cm barramundi first.
And then I caught three barramundi in succession.

On the other hand, my very good fishing friend tried to catch barramundi by using live mullets.
But barramundi wouldn't take his live mullets at at all.

Actually, the other very good fishing friend of mine, Cookie (Matt Cook) came to Channel Island.
I thought that he was moving about in search of many jelly prawns in Channel Island.
Finally, he found a place where many jelly pawns appeared at a distance of several hundred meters away from our usual fishing spot.
As a result, he caught a 87 cm barramundi.
He used Zerek Live Cherabin 100 mm.

Of course, there is a possibility that you can catch barramundi by using other lures in some places in this season.
As you know, there are exceptions to it, however.

Barramundi #1158-1159
Zerek Live Cherabin 100mm
Rapala XR-8

A few times a year, a lot of small jelly prawns appear.
I sometimes saw the response of small jelly prawns to water temperature.
It is often seen on the occasion of the water temperature rise.
That is not an exception this middle of August too.
Barramundi are moving about in search of a lot of small jelly prawns now.
As a result, I don't see barramundi in my usual fishing locations very often recently.
While such situation will likely continue for the time being.
That varies from year to year, but this situation may be lasting through the September and even continuing into the October.
Of course, you will be able to enjoy barramundi fishing in some places in this season.
It depends on where a lot of small jelly prawns appeared.

There is got to be more fishing than barramundi around Darwin in this season.
I'm sure you guys will be able to enjoy the nice-sized mackerel fishing off the coast in this season.

Sure enough, it is difficult to find barramundi in my usual fishing locations now, but not entirely.
I went fishing at Channel Island on Saturday and at Mindil Beach on Sunday.
I somehow caught and released a barramundi on Zerek Live Cherabin 100mm at Channel Island.

It's a very windy day on Sunday.
I caught and released a barramundi on Rapala XR-8 Glass Ghost colour at Mindil Beach.
I think Rapala XR-8 Glass Ghost colour useful for beginners.
I upgraded those hooks and replaced to the heavy duty treble hooks.

In addition, I caught and released 5 trevally and 2 estuary cod on this lure.

Barramundi #1157
Rapala CD-9

It's very windy today.
I hesitated to go out for fishing.
But I went fishing at Channel Island.
The sea water was dirty.
The wind blew against the lure.
Thus I needed a heavy lure having a chartreuse colour.
Rapala CD-9 has a very attractive wobbling action to barramundi.

Queenfish #30
Rockcod #342
Barramundi #1155-1156

I usually specialize in fishing barramundi on lure by land based on shore.
I didn't fish as usual at Channel Island on last Saturday.
Using a new fishing reel having a digital control braking system, I wanted to try to fish other than barramundi.
On the other hand, this was a good opportunity to get to know about the usability of my new fishing reel.
After careful thought, I chose to use Berkley Gulp Minnow 95mm/chartreuse colour because it's windy and the sea water was dirty.
Normally, I use a steady retrieve when presenting soft plastics for catching barramundi.
I used a steady triple hops/ a single pause retrieve for using Berkley Gulp Minnow 95mm/chartreuse this time.
As a result, I caught and released a nice sized queenfish and estuarycod (rockcod).
I was very much delighted with the results.

I moved from Channel Island to East Point in search of the next productive fishing window.
It's windy and the sea water was dirty again.
I used Yo-zuri Super Shallow SS Minnow 70mm/chartreuse colour.
This lure has a very attractive wobbling action to barramundi.
As a result, I caught and released two barramundi.

Barramundi #1156

Quite unfortunately, Yo-zuri SS Minnow became discontinued in Australia.
The combination of fast wobbling action and chartreuse colour is ideally perfect state for catching barramundi on lure by land based in shallow clear/dirty water.

Barramundi #1151-1154
Squidgies Fish 70mm
Shimano Curado 150 DC

I'm starting to use a new bait cast reel having a digital control (DC) braking system.
The digital control (DC) braking system will help the angler to cast comfortably and reduce the backlash.

There were long tides on Saturday and Sunday.
Barramundi are not aggressively moving about in search of their baits on occasion like this.
However, I knew when the productive fishing window would show up.
Anyway, I went fishing at Channel Island.
I had a big cast without thumbing the spool of the reel.
There was no backlash on the spool.
I could focus on my fishing thanks to the digital control braking system.
A a result, I caught and released three barramundi on Squidgies Fish 70mm Lime Lightning colour on Saturday.

The productive fishing window was only for about 20 minutes.

I also caught and released a barramundi on Squidgies Fish 70mm Lime Lightning colour on Sunday.

#1154

The productive fishing window was only for about 20 minutes again.
Honestly speaking, I'm unsatisfied that the barramundi doesn't have the size that I wish for.
The sea water is so clear during this season that a large sized barramundi won't come into the shallow water during the day.

By the way, I like the fishing reel having a digital control braking system very much.
It's really useful for my land based barramundi fishing on lure.
That technology has progressed immensely in these few decades.
On the other hand, the backlashes will get beginners down even if they are using a fishing reel having a digital control braking system.
Basically, a bait cast fishing reel can backlash in casting of beginners.
It's not a very pampering fishing reel.
Beginners should cast their lures farther while imaging to swing their fishing rods in orbit as in the figure in a series of motion of their fishing rods.

58cm Blue Salmon #7
Squidgies Fish 70mm Lime Lightning

Saturday of July 28
I went fishing at Channel Island.
The tides were anything but good for Channel Island.
Sure enough, only I out of four people caught fish there.
A fishing is a game that has element of chance.
Barramundi fishing whose results are difficult to predict because they are controlled by circumstances of fate.
There was no wind.
The sea surface was very flat.
A fishing is a game that has element of chance.
Only I out of four people caught fish there.
A barramundi fishing whose results are difficult to predict to because they are controlled by circumstances and fate.
The flat sea surface can give the wariness to barramundi thereby preventing them from swim in the shallow water.
The result came up to my expectations.
We didn't catch any barramundi.
On the other hand, the result was unexpected.
Normally, I use a 'Fast reel' with a 7.1:1 or 8.2:1 gear ratio, but I used a 'Slow reel' with a 5.7:1 gear ratio at that time at Channel Island.
A 'Slow reel' is effetive for the case that there is no obstacle in the shallow water.
Because the fishing location had a flat sandy and muddy bottom.
As a result, I caught a 58cm nice blue salmon on Squidgies Fish 70mm Lime Lightning colour.

A 58cm blue salmon was a very strong fish.
A quick look at my Youtube channel 'charlietomato' should make the above obvious.
Title: One of the best fights! Using a slow reel, I caught a strong Blue salmon.

Blue salmon is not the real salmon.
Blue salmon are a good table fish.
They have a slightly oily flesh to compare with barramundi.
It is suited for eating by sushi and sashimi with soy sauce and wasabi.

By contrast, barramundi is suited for eating by sashimi with roasted sesame dressing because they don't have a oily flesh.
