My very good fishing friend, Darren Forsythe and I waded through the shallow water to our usual fishing spot at Channel Island this morning.
We met some sea-snakes on our way to our fishing spot.
I was about to step on them when the wound stung by a stingray on 22nd of February has just closed.

They were looking for mantis shrimps and crabs in holes.

There were so many jelly-prawns in the sea.
Barramundi is so crazy about jelly-prawn that they often forget our lures.

I'd like to use the opinion of Mr. Jack Priore as reference as follows,
Yes for many years that area is noted for netting prawns.......fish have it programmed it in their head what to eat, certain times, certain areas....

It's really difficult to catch a barramundi under the condition like that.
After all I didn't had any fish strikings on my lures.
Darren used a Squidgies Prawn 80mm with 1/6oz jig-head.
As a result, he caught a nice 59cm barramundi.

Naturally I went to a local fishing shop to get Squidgies Prawn after then.
However, it is still more doubtful whether barramundi mistakes a Squidgies Prawn White Lightening 80mm for a jelly prawn or not.
Jelly prawn don’t grow any larger than 4cm.
I often see very small jelly prawns no longer than 1cm.

Barramundi wouldn't take my lures positively today.
Actually, I didn't have any fish strikings.
I used Squidgies Prawn, Squidgies Fish and Gulp Swimming Mullet.
It's a rotational operation.
I decided not to use quick clips with plastics just in case today.

On the other hand, my very good fishing friend, Darren Forsythe, caught a barramundi on Squidgies Prawn White Lightening 80mm again continuing from yesterday.
He released this fish into the water.

What's different?
My reeling speed is always faster than Darren's reeling speed.
The swimming depth of Darren's lure is slightly deeper than mine.

陸っぱり用50ccスクーター６万キロ走った。My 9 years old 50cc scooter will be replaced muffler, clutch-shoe, drive-belt and fuel-gauge this time. Super mechanic Mr. Callum Gumball

My 50cc scooter is 9years old.
I bought it brand-new.
It'll have clocked up a mileage of 60,000kilometers, or more.
The odometer was melted by the direct rays of the sun.
My scooter was thrown into the saltwater Vestys lake by some young people once.
Then the scooter would normally be no longer usable.
However, my scooter still runs with my fishing rods. A super mechanic made my scooter what it is today.

Laying down one tool, picking up another, handling each with the strength and delicacy of the trained mechanic, Mr. mechanic, Callum Gumball is maintaining and repairing my scooter now.
I asked him to replace muffler, drive-belt and clutch-kit with clutch shoe, and add fuel gauge this time. Thanks, Callum!
He is very busy though.

High tide: 18:50pm--7.33m
I went to Mindil Beach to fish.
A 7.33m high tide was good enough to carry some fish into a small creek.
However, it's full moon tonight.
A barramundi becomes very cautious under the bright moonlight at the full moon.
Normally, I don't fish under the bright moonlight.
The full moon appeared around 8:00pm at Mindil Beach.

The productive fishing window opened until the full moon appeared at Mindil Beach tonight.
But I didn't catch any fish until then.
I thought that it might be the last chance to catch a $10,000 fish.
So I waded through the shallow water.
I didn't see any marine animals near my feet.
Suddenly, I almost fell down due to sever pain.
I probably stepped on a stingray.
I could shake off the stingray from my right foot under the water.
That's why I didn't see the shape of the stingray itself.
However, I was convinced that I was stung by a stingray because of its strong shock.

The sever pain came at 2-second intervals.
I drove my 150cc scooter to ER of Royal Darwin Hospital.
My right foot was soaked in a very warm water.

The warm water could relieve the sever pain for a few minutes.
Becoming less warm, the sever pain returned again.

I took some painkillers.

The doctor tried to pull out thorns stuck in the wound using tweezers because stinger might break off in the wound.
I had an injection in my left buttock.
After all, the pain abated around 0:00am.
I was saved from the sever pain thanks to proper treatment by doctor and nurses of ER in Royal Darwin Hospital.
Thank you very much.

There are many sting rays in the water at Mindil Beach.
I rarely caught stonefish on my lures too.
Normally I scared them.

A veteran fisherman in search of a prize barramundi has been stung by a stingray - but still managed to ride his moped to hospital.

The late night fishing trip under a full moon ended badly for one of Darwin's best-known anglers, Hiroaki Nakamura.
Mr Nakamura, who is highly regarded in Top End fishing circles and who writes a fishing column in a local newspaper, went fishing in a creek near a city beach last night but ended up in hospital for treatment for a stingray barb.

Mr Nakamura said the lure of winning $10,000 as part of a Government tourism promotion led him to Mindil Beach, near the CBD.
"Normally I don't expect to catch a barramundi at full moon in my usual fishing locations but I thought that it might be the last chance for me to catch a $10,000 fish," he said.
The government's Million Dollar Fish promotion finishes next Monday and there has been a rush of last-minute entries.
"The 7.33-metre high tide was good, I waded through the shallow water, I was attacked by a stingray," Mr Nakamura said.
The keen angler said he felt severe pain in his right foot but was still able to ride his motorised scooter to Royal Darwin Hospital's emergency room.
"The doctor tried to pull out thorns stuck in the wound using tweezers because stinger might break off in the wound," he said.
Mr Nakamura, recently caught his 1,000th barramundi, without the aid of a boat.
He travels around Darwin's foreshore on his scooter, fishing the creeks and inlets on the incoming tide.
After spending four hours in hospital last night, Mr Nakamura has not said if he will be out searching for barramundi fishing again before the February 29 competition deadline.

I left home at 6:45am.
I went to Channel Island to fish.
It took an hour one-way.
The tide was going.
The sea was calm.
The breeze rippled the surface of the sea water.
It was much better than the deadly calm sea.
The productive fishing windows weren't very long today.
My very good fishing friend, Mr. Darren Forsythe, came at just the right moment.
This fishing location was so shallow-several tens of centimeters deep-that shallow diving minnows normally should be used.
He used a Reidy's Junior B52.
I thought that a 100mm sized Junior B52 would hit the sand bottom.
He showed me how to retrieve his Junior B52.
He didn't add any twitch-actions on the retrieval of the lure to get a very cautious barramundi to bite his lure in the calm water.
He inserted some short pauses during the steady reeling.
As a result, he caught a nice sized barramundi.

I used a Squidgies Fish 70mm Mint Jelly colour with a 1/8oz jighead.
I released this fish into the water.

The tide wasn't bad for the land based barramundi fishing at Channel Island.
The sea surface was flat.
It's not deadly flat like a mirror.
The breeze rippled the surface of the sea water.
First, I used a small popper.
I saw nothing good happen to the popper.
Second, I used a 70mm Squidgies Fish with Mint-Jelly colour.
It's very difficult to get this colour at the local fishing stores these days.

陸っぱり、１００３匹目のバラマンディー。
There was much fresh water left and mixed into the sea water at Channel Island and East Point today.
It's very hard to fish barramundi there.
The tides were not bad.
I somehow caught and released a small barramundi at East Point.

I cast a Mongrel to the opposite side of the rocks.
Retrieving a Mongrel over the rocks in the water, I sometimes added pauses.

I heard that barramundi were caught in some places today. I thought that It probably depended on the water condition.

The big tide carried many fish into the saltwater culvert at the high tide, and what was better,
there wasn't any big rains for the last few days.
The monsoon rains are essential to us though.


There was no moon while I was fishing.
I think, someone is worried that it is too dark for barramundi to take a lure.
Barramundi can take a lure in a very dark water much more than you think.
I won't use any lures with fluorescent coating material for the barramundi fishing.

The productive fishing window normally opens while the water is flowing in the saltwater culvert.
I cast my lures around shallow snags and caught 51cm and 50cm barramundi from the bank of the saltwater culvert.
These are my 1001st and 1002nd barramundi.
I released them into the water.

These lures are dark in colour.

However, barramundi took them positively in a very dark water.
