Not easy to catch barramundi at the neap tide in a cold-water season.

The difference between high and low tides are becoming small in June every year.
Even so, I normally can catch some barramundi in my usual fishing locations in June.
Even if the seawater is cold and clear, I will be able to catch some barramundi.
If it were usual, I can probably catch some barramundi in June
I felt something was wrong with that this weekend.
As a result, I couldn't catch any barramundi.
Major reasons for this include the neap tide in a cold-water season.
The generating quantity of micro baits for small baits is reduced in a shallow water at the neap tide in a cold-water season.
On the other hand, it's easy to catch some barramundi at the neap tide in the wet season.
Because the difference between high and low tides becomes great in the wet season.
However, I went fishing at Mindil Beach and Fannie Bay on the weekend.
According to expectation, I didn't have any fish-bites on my lures.
I have repeatedly wrote, I don't think that the cold water is as big a problem as you think in the barramundi fishing in the dry season.
Some people caught and released many small and middle sized barramundi in billabongs now.
Some people caught some nice sized barramundi and mangrovejack in Darwin Harbour now.

My very good fishing friend, Mr. Callum Gumball caught a nice sized mangrovejack in the harbour in the morning on June 26.
Callum knows where to go fishing mangrovejack very well even in a cold-water season.
Barramundi and mangrovejack are always moving about in search of their baits.
An angler for the land based barramundi fishing should move about in search of a place where the generating of micro baits for small baits possibly occurs.
It requires the boat in this case.
However, it is not at Mindil Beach.

I don't know who they are.
Their efforts would come to nothing at Mindil Beach.

52cm Barramundi #1146
Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm
8'6" Long fishing rod for baitcast reel

Continuing from last week, I have been using a 8'6" very long fishing rod for my bait-cast reel.

Saturday of June 16

It's very windy.
I went fishing to Channel Island.
I was thinking that I needed a cowling for my 150cc scooter which could effectively suppress an air cutting sound while driving.
I stayed and fished at Channel Island for 2 hours.
As might be expected, the fishing results were very poor.
And I hesitated about which fishing location to go with, Mindil Beach or East Point.
Finally, I moved to look for good-tide timing to Mindil Beach.
I thought that my decision was correct when I arrived at Mindil beach.
The wind in the upper sky was strong.
But the sea-surface wasn't wavy.
It's a typical situation in our dry season.

I waded through a knee deep water to a good place for casting lures.
The seawater was murky.
Be careful when entering our waters!
I had to watch my step, or else I would trip on the rocks or step on the stingrays.
A 8'6" long fishing rod was a handy to take on this situation.
The progress in technologies of fishing reels, fishing lines and lures also has given my land based barramundi fishing an amazing casting-distance of lures.
As a result, I caught and released a 52cm barramundi on Squidgy Pro Mongrel 90mm Aussie Herring colour.
The size of barramundi is a lottery in my usual fishing locations.

It is much less muggy in June than it was our wet season.
In addition, I'm not concerned about a lightning strike while fishing.
I love our dry season.

Barramundi #1145
Rapala Flatrap 10F
Long 8'6" fishing rod

Do longer fishing rods cast farther?
Those became possible due to advance in technology.
The flying distance of the lure is a very important factor in the land based barramundi fishing at my usual fishing locations.

I went fishing at Myilly Point rocks on Monday of June 11.
As you know, Myilly Point rocks comprises Mindil Beach and its rock bar is L-shaped oriented casino side.
The seawater was very shallow.
I needed to cast the lure accurately to a distance fishing point.
I used a 8'6" long fishing rod for my bait-cast reel this time.
The 2-piece fishing rod is more compact to transport than the 1-piece fishing rod.
I was satisfied with its cast-distance very much.
This 8'6" long fishing rod has good lure-operation-ability too.
I did not expect this.
However, the result proved it.
I caught a barramundi on a hard body lure.

I used Rapala Flatrap 100mm Floating.
As the picture suggests, I should have changed the original treble-hooks on this Rapala lure for better-quality hooks.
Maybe, these original treble-hooks are not strong enough for even a 50cm sized barramundi.

Lure: Rapala Flatrap 10 Floating

Size: 100mm

Colour: Chrome

Where: Shallow water 30cm - 50cm deep

Water: Very clear / Incoming

Line: Fins 30lb

Leader: Black Magic 40lb mono

Reel: Shimano Chronarch G 150HG

Rod: Redington Model CPX868C2 8'6" Medium Action 8-15lb 1/8-1/2oz

Lure action: twitch and jerk

Barramundi #1143-1144
Rockcod #341
Catfish #47
Yo-zuri Mag Minnow 90F
Zerek Venus Trap 50S
About how I spend Sunday.

I'm living near the water for fishing.
On my days off   I'm usually out, going out for fishing.
This is about how I spend Sunday.
"The best tide shifts with the best fishing point every hour."

Sunday of June 3
First, I went fishing at Mindil Beach.
I caught and released two barramundi there.
I used Yo-zuri Mag Minnow 90mm Floating.
This lure has an amazing cast-distance.
It's a very effective lure for the rocky shallow water.
The seawater was so clear that I could catch these barramundi while viewing the barramundi that was swimming in the shallow water.

Second, I went on fishing at East Point.
I waded through a knee-deep shallow water to the rocks.
We always must look out for crocodiles there.
I caught and released a small rockcod on Zerek Venus Trap 50mm Vibration Sinking.
This lure looks great and is very well made.

After that, I had lunch at my place.
Mindi Beach and East Point are 10minutes away by my scooter from my place.
I went fishing at Fannie Bay after lunch.
I caught and released a catfish.
Yo-zuri Mag Minnow 90mm Floating did good work again.

Catfish #47

Since the frequency of the neap tide is higher recently, a nice sized barramundi won't come near the shallow waters in the day time.
In this case, the transparency of the seawater has increased.
I can fish whatever sight-fishing I like in this situation.

Where: Shallow water 30cm - 50cm deep

Water: Very clear / Outgoing and Incoming

Line: Fins 30lb

Leader: Triumph Super Shock Leader Fluorocarbon 40lb

Knot: The Albright Knot

Reel: Shimano Chronarch G 150HG

Rod: ST.CROIX
