96cm Barramundi #1192
Rapala SXRM-10 Purple Back Herring

January 26, 2019.
Saturday's tide times
03:53am - 1.88m
09:32am - 6.71m
15:50pm - 1.73m
22:11pm - 7.34m

I thought that my usual fishing locations, Mindil Beach rocks, Fannie Bay rocks and Channel Island had too much dirty fresh water from the land due to rainfall.
Saltwater barramundi don't like the very dirty water from the land in shallows on shore.
It's a short spell of temperate weather during the rainy season.
The rain having stopped, I went fishing at East Point rocks.
This fishing location has a creek-styled water system.
My first impression of the water was dirty.
However, the water in some places was clean in the main current of a creek.
I expected that a purple-colour lure would be effective for the barramundi fishing in a very dirty water due to rainfall.
On the other hand, George Voukolos Jr who has caught 222 metery barramundi by land based recommended me to use Rapala SXRM-10 for the East Point rocks several days ago.
According to George, our good fishing friend,Mark West had some good results using the Rapala SXRM-10 at the East Point rocks.
As a result, the following lure was what I chose.

Rapala SXRM-10 / Purple back herring / Floating

The water current was very strong.
The actions of the lure were twitch, twitch and jerk.
Soon, I had a very strong and heavy fish-bite.
The fish was running and pulling the fishing line hard.
I somehow could land the fish on the rocks.

She was a 96cm saltwater barramundi.
I released her into the sea water because she was a mother fish.
I posted this article with the picture on Facebook on January 26.

The next day, I received a message from Joel Eaton.
Hey Hiro, I took your advice on the Rapala lure in purple and caught this 108cm Barramundi off the rocks in Cairns this morning.  Thanks for the good advice!

Joel used the same lure as I used for catching my 96cm barramundi.

222 metery barramundi by land based
Mr. George Voukoos Jr.

George Voukolos Jr has caught 222 metery barramundi by land based since 2010.
2010: 42
2011: 33
2012: 36
2013: 29
2014: 23
2015: 16
2016: 24
2017: 18
2018: 00
2019: 01 (113cm)

He is my first teacher of my fishing in Darwin.

I learned how to catch queenfish and tuna at the Stokes Hill wharf from him in 1989.
George said that the secret of his success was the evolution of fishing lines.
He uses Sufix 832 braid: 30lb and Schneider leader: 45lb now.
He prefers to use Nils Master Lures.
The fishing gear and equipment these days are really evolving.
I myself enjoy the benefits of the evolution of fishing gear and equipment in my land based barramundi fishing on lure.
As you know, George caught the $10,000 prize-tagged barramundi in 2016 and 2017.

I still have been learning much from his experience.
By the way, George failed to seize the $1M prize-tagged barramundi recently.

On the other hand, he is worried about the topographic change on his usual fishing locations.
As for the my usual fishing locations, I am suffering through that situation about the same as he.
The recent trend shows that the lowest point and the slope do not go as far down.

Barramundi #1190-1191
Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90mm
Mr. Randal Lewis
60cm Barramundi

Saturday on January 12
It was not very windy.
I went fishing at Channel Island.
At first, no one happened to be there, except for me.
I thought that I could obtain a good fishing result even from cautious barramundi.
The sea water was going out and getting dirtier.
I tried several different lures in type and colour.
I didn't have any fish bites.
In the meantime, Randal and his girl friend came there.
I started using Yo-zuri Pin's Minnow 90mm.
I was knee-deep in water.
We had to look out for crocodiles, stingrays, stonefish, sharks and box jelly fish.
My lure-actions were twitch, twitch, twich and pause.
As a result, I caught and released two small barramundi.

I saw that Randal was fighting with a nice sized barramundi.

Mr. Randal Lewis caught a 60cm barramundi.

He used Squidgies Slick Rig 65mm with a purple colour.
I normally don't use the purple lures in colour.
However, I remember seeing the Squidgies Slick Rig with a purple colour.
Mr. Matt West used Squidgy Pro Slick Rig 130mm with a purple colour when he became a champion angler at the Barra Classic 2010.

Management angling waters for the barramundi fishing
バラマンディーの管理釣り場

Sunday morning on January 6, I finished off my outfit with an angler's shirt.
At any rate I could go out for fishing when the speed of the wind was lowered.
Though the wind stopped blowing, the thunder was rolling.
I don't like thunder at fishing.
As a result, I didn't go out while the thunder was rolling.
Sunday afternoon, it wasn't thundery and the wind didn't rise.
I went fishing at Mindil Beach rocks.
The sea water was coming in.
Although the breeze had ceased, the sea was very wavy.
That happens to our January a lot.

The sea water was very dirty.
The barramundi wouldn't come to this shallow water.

I took it as a good opportunity to analyse the behavior patterns of barramundi at a part of s shore that appeared at low tide.
Barramundi are an ambush predator, waiting for their prey to come to them before striking from structures on the outgoing tide especially.
They like to swim the water-pass that they frequently travel.
The angler should know the spot where the barramundi will rest.
Monday afternoon, I went fishing at a saltwater culvert relatively unaffected by the influence of winds.

I didn't have any fish bites.
I can strongly feel the value of Barramundi Adventures Darwin when I have a very wavy sea every day.
Barramundi Adventures Darwin is a land-based, catch and released barramundi fishing farm.
Such management angling waters for the barramundi fishing exist in Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore and Japan.
Darwin is a sacred place for the barramundi fishing.
Having management angling waters for the barramundi fishing, there will be multiple benefits in the strengthening of the international competitiveness of the fishing-tourism Top End.

Barramundi #1189
Catfish #50
Zerek Flat Shad 110mm

When I look back, I realize that Darwin had only two days of the calm days in December.
I went fishing at Mindil Beach rocks on December 28.
The sea was still having a dirty water with the coral spawn.
However, the condition was getting better.
There were thousands of rocks covered with oysters in the water.
Needless to say, what I'm always aiming at is catching barramundi.
The barramundi was hiding behind rocks at a depth of 30 - 50 cm.
Using a soft plastic lure "weedless", I can effectively catch barramundi in a place like this.
I used a Zerek Flat Shad 110mm.
The wind rippled the surface of the sea.
The wind condition can either positively or negatively affect the quality of the fishing.
The wind gave the motivation to fish.
I had a strong fish bite on my lure.
It's a strong fish.
Without looking at that fish, I recognized "not barramundi" with a special feeling at once.
I caught and released a catfish.

Soon, I had a strong fish bite on my lure again.
I recognized barramundi's bite at once.
Barramundi draws with irregular and more complicated motion during the fighting.
As a result, I caught and released a barramundi.

By the way, I used Squidgies S-Factor as a fish-feeding stimulant.
The user can get the better fish-catch rates simply by applying the gel to a body of the soft plastic lure.
Zerek Flat Shad has a suitable design for using Squidgies S-Factor.

Lure: Zerek Flat Shad

Size: 110mm

Colour: White

Where: Shallow water 30cm - 50cm deep

Water: Murky / Outgoing

Line: Surfix 832 30lb

Leader: Jinkai 40lb

Knot: The Albright Knot

Reel: Shimano Calcutta 200D

Rod: Abu Garcia Veritas VAT3.C 661M 6'6" 1pc 5-8kg 8-50g
