61cm and 57cm Dry season's barramundi #1023-1024
Squidgy Pro Mongrel

I went to Fishing & OutdoorWorld this morning.
I bought a new braid line Sufix832 15lb for my Shimano Stella 2500FE.
On the other hand, Matt West (2010 Barra Classic Champion) chose and encouraged me a new braid line Toray Jigging PE 30lb for my Shimano Scorpion 1500XT.
And then I went to Channel Island to fish with my Shimano Scorpion 1500XT.
The flight distance of my lures surprisingly increased.

It seemed that the seawater temperature finally stopped falling.
Barramundi still didn't come to the very shallow water of 30cm-50cm deep.
I thought that barramundi might be about the water of 50cm-1m deep.
By using a Toray Jigging PE 30lb line, it became a lure reaching very far.
As a result, I caught 61cm and 57cm dry-season barramundi on Squidgy pro Mongrel 90mm / Aussie Herring.

Toray Jigging PE 30lb is very useful for improving the flight distance of my lures with my Shimano Scorpion 1500XT bait caster reel.
This technique calls for a high degree of skill.

By the way, Boga-grip is really handy, sturdy and rust-free.

Effective lure-colours in the cold water season

As the lowering seawater temperature is ongoing, barramundi and their bait fish are not coming forward to the shallow waters in my usual fishing locations.
That is not an exception this year too.
Once the seawater temperature becomes stable, they will come forward to the shallows even in a very cold seawater in my usual fishing locations.
So I'm looking forward to July to come.
I analyzed the past data of that I caught many barramundi in July in 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2010.

●Very clear water/Day time/70cm-1.5m deep/Rocky water
        Lure: Gold
●Very clear water/Day time/30cm-50cm deep/Rocky water
        Lure: Green
●Very clear water/Day time/30cm-50cm deep/Rocky-sandy water
        Lure: Silver
●Clear-murky water/Day time/30cm-50cm deep/Sandy water
        Lure: Green
●Clear-murky water/Day time/30cm-50cm deep/Rocky-sandy water
        Lure: White
●Very clear water/Night time/30cm-50cm deep/Sandy water
        Lure: Gold
●Clear-murky water/Night time/30cm-50cm deep/Sandy water
        Lure: Silver
●Clear-murky water/Night time/30cm-50cm deep/Rocky-sandy water
        Lure: Green

Hard body lures were relatively effective for barramundi in the day time.
Small soft plastic shads were relatively effective for barramundi in the night time.
Probably, the result was a surprise to you.
Don't worry about that!
Barramundi can take small lures even at night times or on poor visibility conditions very well.
Barramundi seem to be endowed with a peculiar capacity for sensing to danger and wave motion in the water.
Therefore, they cannot sense the presence of lures in the water when the noise of the waves is loudly.
A Squidgies Fish/70mm-80mm/Silver Fox made the biggest impact in July's barramundi fishing in my usual fishing locations.

Taking into consideration the various factors overall, perhaps, it is reasonable to suppose that "Kryptonite"in colour of Reidy's lures will be applicable under any condition.
The sensibility to colours of barramundi is probably different from our one.
This article is just written on the basis of my experience.
There are exceptions to it, however.

Barramundi #1021 -1022
Squidgies Fish and Squidgy Pro Mongrel
The seawater temperature suddenly became cold.

It has gotten noticeably cooler lately.
The sea water temperature has been decreasing.

So I'm faced with a difficult situation now.
  • The seawater temperature suddenly becomes cold.  As a result, barramundi won't come to the shallow water.
  • The seawater is super clear.  As a result, barramundi become very cautious.
  • The wind is very noisy.  As a result, barramundi won't notice lures.
  • The wind blows from the land toward the sea for many hours.  As a result, baits are being swept further out from the shallow water.
I still wanted to fish barramundi.
I need a hint.
I only have a limited knowledge of barramundi as follows.
  • They are fish.
  • They must eat to live.
  • They also live to eat but this does not include all of them.
  • They don't need to prepare themselves for hibernation.
  • They don't have a routine in which they fast.
  • They eat during the incoming tide and they also eat during the outgoing tide.
  • They eat during the warm-water season.
  • They eat during the cold-water season.
  • They like a stable water temperature.
  • They cannot exist without the hunted.
  • They are not as quick as queenfish is.
  • They attack their baits from a place where they have hidden and waited.
  • They never pity the weak.
  • The stronger prey on the weaker in their world.
  • The bigger prey on the smaller in their world.

I think that barramundi just cannot cope with sudden changes in the water temperature.  So they don't come to the shallow water temporarily.  It is also true for their baits.
However, even under the condition of a very cold water, they will start taking lures in shallow water once the water temperature became stable again.
After all, I can only let this situation take its own course.

Even so, I somehow still caught small capricious barramundi in my usual fishing locations.
The best tide shifts with the best fishing point every hour.
My choices were not wrong in fishing location.

Trevally #46
Squidgies Fish
No need to insert a pause

Pauses play an important role in the barramundi fishing on lures.
They can also be caught by steadily retrieving lures without pauses.
They are not  easily caught in my usual fishing locations if the sea conditions are unsatisfied.

On the contrary, small trevally  are easily caught.
There are exceptions to it, however.

Pauses don't play an important role in the trevally fishing on lures.

Continuous rotational movements play an important role in the trevally fishing on lures.
By using rhythmical movements, that can be excellent.

Children will delight in the small trevally fishing because they can feel a very strong tug on the fishing line.
The best thing is that it is very easy.

Sunday
Today's sea surface was just as flat as yesterday in the morning.
The water was clear.
Barramundi won't take lures positively under the condition like that in the day time in my usual fishing locations.
So I didn't catch any barramundi in the morning.
But the barramundi fishing in the creek is an exception.
I hooked a very heavy barramundi on lure in the creek near my place at night in the same day.
The water surface was very flat at that time.

Trevally would take lures positively in that kind of situation.
As a result, I caught some trevally at Channel Island this morning.
I used a soft plastic bait.
It would be alright to use small popper, minnow and metal jig.

Rockcod #336
Bomber Long 15A
Nicely restaurant sized rockcod
Steamed fish in Hong Kong style

It has been a windy day since yesterday afternoon.
Many sea weeds were thrown upon the beach.
There were many floating seaweeds on the sea surface this morning.
Barramundi won't take lures positively under the condition like this.
There are, indeed, exceptions.
As far as my experience goes, the red-white lure is effective for the condition under the gloomy light of the street lamp or the morning time.
Rockcod is a very tasty fish if it is steamed properly.
It must be very fresh. No freezing!
I caught a very nicely restaurant-sized rockcod this morning at Fannie Bay.

Barramundi #1020 and Crocodile
Halco Roosta Popper 80mm

I went fishing to the creek near my place starting early in the morning.
A good result could be expected at the creek from today's tides in the morning.
03:52am -- 1.90m
10:12am -- 6.46m
I started fishing before sunup.
The tide water had not come in yet.
I felt the water began to move after a while.
I was fishing using a Halco Roosta Popper 80mm Gold colour.
The water current had not been strong yet.
A great splash broke the morning calm in the dark.

As soon as the sun was up, I also hooked a 1.3m crocodile on this popper.

Crocodiles live quite near a town.
It isn't uncommon these days.

Soon the water current became very strong.
The productive fishing window was up very quickly.
