Actually, however, I caught more fish than the above results.
I probably caught about 50 more in Rock cod.
I couldn't be bothered to take the pictures of those rock cod especially.
In addition, I couldn't count the results when I mistakenly deleted some pictures of other fish.
Worse, I sometimes forgot to count some results also.
The above results should be a surprise to you about the prominence of the barramundi.
This is the result I had hoped for though.
I basically released these above fish.
I take 55-79cm sized sea barramundi home for cooking when I want to eat fish.

Saturday morning
56cm Barramundi #933
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL
How to make sashimi?

I decided to get out of the Buffalo Creek around 9:30am.
I was hesitating about going to the Lee Point Beach while driving my 8 years old 50 cc scooter because I only had 30 minutes to fish there.
After all, I went to the Lee Point Beach to fish.

I waded through the shallow water near the rocks.

The sea water was murky but I could see in the water.
I cast my lure at a depth of 70 cm, took the greatest precautions against crocodile, shark and stonefish.
I had a short striking and so loosened the drag pressure as much as possible.

As a result,

I wanted to have some delicious sashimi for the first time in a while.

The sea barramundi is a very clean fish to eat in raw.
I bleed the fish thoroughly and quickly when I catch a keeper-size sea barramundi that I intend to eat.
I take it home as soon as possible, hanging it by my left hand using a lip grip while riding on my scooter.

I did like that again.
Many people took the pictures of me and fish while I was driving my 8 years old 50 cc scooter.

Sliced into two pieces.

Sliced into six pieces.

Made sashimi slices.

These sashimi slices can be preserved for one day in the fridge.

PIETRO DRESSING is made in Japan.
There are many tastes of dressing in PIETRO.
I recommend you the above one with an orange cap.  (Original taste)
This deliciousness is incomparable!

Originally, I didn't know PIETRO DRESSING in spite of product of Japan.
Mrs. Megan Brown and Jessica Winstone gave it to me.

Angelo Pietro - Welcome to Angelo Pietro

KEWPIE Roasted Sesame dressing is recommended very much also.
You can buy it from Woolworths and Coles.
It’s no exaggeration to say that eating barramundi’s sashimi with a superfine quality dressing is a uniquely Territorian treat.
A new wave sashimi that originated in Darwin!
Eating sea barramundi’s sashimi is very cool!

Jelly prawn frustration
Barramundi #932
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL
Buffalo Creek

It had not rained for a day.
In my experience, the best time for catching many good-size saltwater barramundi from the shore in the rainy season is when we have had no rain for 24 hours.
So I went to Buffalo Creek to try to catch a fish.
It took 40 minutes from my place on my eight-year-old 50cc scooter.
I waited for the tide to come in.
There were many schools of jelly prawns there.

Jelly prawns showering out of the water as they are hunted by hungry predators at Buffalo Creek.

Probably small shrimps, with a length of about 3-4mm, which were hopping out of the water.
When fish are feeding on very small bait like this it is hard to catch them.
I used some hard body lures and soft plastic lures to fish.
But the fish were not interested.
The tide came slowly in.
I had some hits on my lure. but the fish were short-striking so I loosened the drag pressure as much as possible.
As a result, I caught a nice saltwater barramundi using a Squidgy Pro Mongrel and a steady retrieve.

This year's first 24hours' lull in the rain.
Barramundi #930-931
SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL
YO-ZURI SS-MINNOW

I still fish the shore when it is rainy, but it is not the ideal time.
In my experience, the best time for catching many good-size saltwater barramundi from the shore in the rainy season is when we have had no rainy for 24 hours.
It showered off and on all days this year so far.
To be exact, the total time has been over 22 hours since the last rain in my fishing location.
Finally, that time came.
The sea wasn't very wavy but just wavy.
This year's first chance.
I went to Mindil to fish after work by my 8years old 50cc scooter.
Anyhow, I loosened the drag pressure as much as possible.
As a result,

Not rich fisherman went to Mindil Beach to fish.
Barracuda #15
Flathead #51

Many nice sized barramundi are caught at the Shady Camp now.
I can't go there by my 8 years old 50cc scooter.
I had no choice but to go to Mindil Beach near my place to fish after work.

The tide was coming.
Today was clear until then.
The sea surface was rippled.
First, I caught a barracuda.

What has changed since then?
I have landed 929 barramundi so far.

To my mind, the stance of my barramundi fishing by land based hasn't changed since 2010.
I have landed 929 barramundi so far.

Barramundi Landed
2010 April-December    78
2011 January-December   273
2012 January-December   375
2013 January-December   113
2014 January-December    83
2015 January     7
              Total   929

I used a lot of Squidgie Fish in my barramundi fishing in 2012 and have been using Squidgy Pro Mongrel since then.

SQUIDGIES FISH

SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL

  • I have noticed that the shores of the sea, including the urban small creeks, were getting shallower in my fishing locations year by year.  Consequently, the flying distance of a lure must be increased. That was why I started using SQUIDGY PRO MONGREL.
  • Many big schools of mullets were not seen after 2011.  As a result, I haven't used top-water lures. for examples LUCKY CRAFT SAMMY and GUNFISH very much since 2012.
  • Right below the smalls rock and big rocks there were hollows, 5-10 baby barramundi, middle sized barramundi and nice sized barramundi were hiding there until 2012.  I called those rocks 'Barramundi house'.  My fishing locations don't have anything like a barramundi house now.  All it has is the common rock.
  • There are more very wavy sea conditions in recent years than before.  Even if I go to an urban creek to fish, I will not catch any nice sized barramundi there because the water is very shallow.

Rockcod #324
YO-ZURI SS-MINNOW
I don't know how to fish barramundi when they are chasing jelly prawn.

Bait a small challenge

I’m jealous that other anglers can go to the Shady Camp to fish! From the medium- to long-term viewpoint, the good amount of rain showers benefits upon our barramundi fishing. But the immediate issue for me is that the long rain would not be very good for land-based barramundi fishing in my normal urban fishing locations.
The sea has become dirty because of the inflow of a large amount of rainwater that also washes in debris and rubbish.
In addition to this factor, we have been having very wavy seas which further stir up inshore areas.
The rain stopped this weekend at last.
But the sea was very wavy as usual.
I only could go fishing to an urban creek.
I saw that many small barramundi were chasing bait in the creek.
I couldn’t see distinctly what they were eating.
Probably small shrimps, with a length of about 3-4mm, which were hopping out of the water.
When fish are feeding on very small bait like this it is hard to catch them.
I used some hard body lures and soft plastic lures to fish.
Nothing could fish them.
I didn’t know how to fish them.
After all, I only caught some small rock cod.
