120cm, 110cm Threadfin salmon 9kg Catfish At the mouth of Shady Camp Mr. Keith Watson

A angler "Keith Watson" is always the best bet for the title.
Keith is a very interesting angler in Darwin.
He is a quite famous as a master hand of casting with a spinning rod now.
Actually his lure-casting is very, very beautiful.

He caught the biggest Bream at the tournament of BBBDHI 2012.
Darwin's very experienced and skilled anglers know how difficult we caught a Bream by lures in Darwin water.

On the other hand, Keith is a metre-Barramundi catcher.
He caught a 105cm Barramundi on Run-off this year.

I was interested in this fishing trip of Keith at the mouth of Shady Camp in September.
Probably he wanted to catch an another metre-Barramundi this time.
The spawning season has just started and so expectant big mother Barramundis are moving for the mouth of big creeks and rivers.

But this is Mr. Keith Watson. ヽ(^◇^*)/
I know that he's originally a very, very good Threadfin salmon catcher.

As a result,

110cm monster Threadfin salmon was caught by Mr. Keith Watson.


110cm gold threaddie from mouth of shady... took a huge liking to the BIG B52 trolled at speed.
Unfortunately this beautiful golden one had a bit of battle damage on its tail probably from a croc or a shark.

Why can't we catch many Barramundis in September? In the case of our land based fishing Around the east region of Darwin City

We can catch many Barramundis in July around here.
We can catch many Barramundis after the second half of October.
But we can't catch many Barramundis in September around here every year.

Why?

There should be two reasons.

The reason 1:
The temperatures are developing.  But those conditions are very unstable in the day time and the night time and there is a big difference, especially the second half of August and early September.  It produces some different waters around here.
This phenomenon of different waters is caused by the land shape patterns and the submarine topography patterns.
There is a very big tidal movement in Darwin and so you probably hardly agree with me.
It is thought that Barramundis are staying in their more comfortable water now.
Therefore, its population itself is much smaller than the other season around here in September.

The reason 2:
It is thought that there is an influence of the water through the tidal flats in this season.
Even if we see a Barramundi in the water, Barramundi doesn't take a lure.
It is thought that Barramundi isn't hungry.

When you walk on the tidal flats around the east region of Darwin city.
You can see the different conditions of mud in every season.

Rainy season: No mud on the shore (Washed out - Muddy water)

Dry season: Not thick mud on the shore (Clear water)

September: Very thick mud on the shore (Unstable waters)

Wet season: Some rains (More stable waters)

Rainy season, Dry season and Wet season are very good for our land based Barramundi fishing.
Muddy water itself is very good for catching Barramundi.
This muddy water means that the water colour is more likely muddy.
It doesn't means the quality of the water.
We shouldn't misunderstand that mud itself is a negative factor for our land based fishing.

The temperature is getting hotter day by day in September.
And you can see a very interesting condition of mud on the tidal flats in September.
The mud expands with heat in outgoing tide on the tidal flats in the day time.
It comes to approx. 50mm thick.
It smells something decomposing.

It is thought that the water through the tidal flats with this negative organic matter diminishes Barramundi's appetite.
Barramundi doesn't want to take lures under the condition of the influence of this water in September.

It is thought that these factors of the water temperature, something positive or negative organic matter and their life cycle of Barramundi are a combination of many separate factors, each of which is related to, and affected by, the others.

There is no validation of this.

In my conclusion,

It is thought that we can catch many Barramundis even in September if we find the water without the influence of this negative organic factor.  However, the water should be more stable condition in water temperature there.

Probably, something negative organic matter should be too much for Barramundi in the water on the shore in September.  Some rains will break the spell of this negative organic matter.  And we will have some fish bites when we have had no rainy for 24 hours.

Fishing & Outdoor World is selling RAPALA ORIGINAL F-9 now.
Normally we can't find this very good lure in Darwin.
Mr. Matt West and Mr. Mark West told me that RAPALA ORIGINAL FLOATING is a very good lure.
And so I used this lure for my trial fishing (experiment).

Even Mr. Stephen Lew and Mr. Steve Osborne didn't catch Barramundi today.
I thought that it's still been too early to catch a Barramundi around this point.
Every September is a very hard season for our land based Barramundi fishing around here.
On the other hand, I've been studying about the influence of the seasonal land waters around here.
And so I've arrived at an interesting situation.
This is my trial fishing.
I fished at the point without much influence of this season's land water.

Darwin Lady Anglers Canadian Salmon Mrs. June Voukolos Mrs. Cheryl Munson

I found some very interesting pictures in iphone of Mr. George Voukolos. (Fishing & Outdoor World)

Two ladies caught nice sized Canadian Salmons.
Mrs. June Voukolos and Mrs. Cheryl Munson went fishing in Canada in June this year.

Fishing style: Trolling

The flasher is made to rotate as it is trolled.

A dodger is metal as it is trolled.

Flashers and Dodgers are Salmon catchers in Canada.

The spoon is used with a downrigger.

Mr. George Voukolos taught me about this trolling system.

All seasons target fish Golden Trevally Theory by Mr. Steve Osborne

We can catch a nice sized Golden Trevally through out the year in Darwin.

Golden Trevally is one of the very attractive target of our land based fishing.

Many bait-fishermen are catching Golden Trevally with squid or prawn. 

Have you thought about Golden Trevally's bait-taking habits?

My very good friend, Mr. Steve Osborne, knows a lot about Golden Trevally's behaviors.

Steve told me about them this afternoon as follows,

Very important factor: 

Golden Trevally has a distinguish trait on their mouth.

The shape of their mouth are similar to Whiting.

Whiting mainly takes the bait on the bottom.

On the other hand, they take the popper on the surface.

In conclusion, we can use deep-diver lures, soft plastic baits and poppers for catching Golden Trevally.

And it is thought that deep-diver lures and soft plastic baits are more effective for our land based fishing than popper in Darwin.

Still quiet water Flathead 34 DAMIKI SUSPENDING

The tides were not bad.
The weather was very good.

But I didn't have any bites except one bite.
Very quiet water.
September is the hardest time for our land based fishing.

Some people caught many Barramundis at the mouth of the river and big creek by boats now.
They caught many Barramundis on fresh waters too.

Hi Hiro,

It has been quite for me as well. I went to hit the outgoing low tide at XX on Friday. Beautiful water, lots of bait fish, but no bite at all! (except a pan sized cod) I moved to Lee Point for the incoming  and saw someone caught a big barra (65cm plus) on a popper! Barra are still around I guess. Just need to be at the right place, right time. Good luck and tight line, friend.
